I visited the memorial again this morning and looked up at the names etched in stone while traffic rushed past. It is painful to see how easily some people want to trade our history for a new office building. Your notes about your own family members who served motivate me to keep pushing forward against these developers.

As the sole remaining founder of MILVETS, I feel violated that the Franklin County Commissioners plan to tear down the Vets Memorial. Shame on them!! Joseph L. Vogel, Colonel, USAF (Ret)
I am a taxpayer who every year joins those who celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. day at Vets Memorial after the march. Will that event be scrapped once the rich developers tear down the building for their own money-making goals? Shame on those who only see dollar signs in connection to this destruction.
How in the world do you imagine we promote and inspire honor in others by tearing down our memorials to it? Plenty of condos for sale already, fellas. There is more value in the preservation of our society and culture than in your rooms for rent. Beat it...
Vets has been a second home to me, my sister, and now my daughter as we are all Straub dancers. It is an amazing facility to us and many other patrons and is a landmark in our downtown culture.
Tearing down this iconic building would be a tragedy. Especially since the Veterans, who the building was for, don't want it torn down. City "Leaders" championing its demolition are not only short sighted but don't know or appreciate the significance of this historical building!
I want the Franklin County Veterans' Memorial to be saved and renovated. I am appalled about how disrespectfully Mayor Coleman and the Franklin County Commissioners have been towards the Veterans. This matter should be placed before the voters, not the F.C Commissioners. This land is worth millions of dollars and is owned by the tax payers. Don Brown has admitted there is no business plan in writing for how the property will be developed if it is torn down. That is outrageous! I will do what I can to save the Veterans' Memorial and to honor our Veterans for their remarkable service to our country. I urge Mayor Coleman and the Franklin County Commissioners to start to honor our veterans and reverse the plan to demolish the V.M. Dr. Barbara Reardon
