Surfside

Surfside, Florida modify the 60/40 land vs. home rule
Request that Section 90-49 of the Town Code be amended to add the following:
"For additions to existing single family homes on Lots of 6,000 square feet or less, Lot coverage may be increased to 47.5% maximum provided that the addition is one story and is within the established setbacks."

Surfside, Florida is changing and growing. Many families are being forced out of their current homes and /or are not even considering Surfside as a home due to the highly restrictive nature of their home expansion building codes.

The change we propose will not allow someone to build a 'McMansion' but it will, given they meet all criteria, afford the opportunity to minimally expand a home in a manner that extends its use. This change could also encourage further investment in the homes of Surfside given their new potential to expand and offer greater comfort and financial value to the owners and the community.

Surfside over the next few years will experience an additional metamorphosis with the addition of many high end hotels and shopping. This will inherently increase values in the area. The homes west of these new developments should also be given an opportunity to capitalize on the rising values by allowing owners, within above mentioned parameters, to expand and beautify their homes thereby realizing their use and financial potential.

Please consider supporting this minor change to an ancient ordinance which is obstructing a much needed refreshing of policy to issue in the next phase of Surfside's growth and exciting future.

Thank you
