We should be encourage our children to embrace their hair that grows naturally out of their heads. The natural texture of our hair is after all very beautiful to look at and to touch.
Images of black female beauty should not be confined to those images of black women who choose to straighten their hair.

Natural Afro hair is beautiful. It is disgraceful there should be any pressure on anyone to modify their hair in any way, be it straight or curly. Mine is naturally and boringly dead straight, and going grey and I've given up on colouring it. Natural should be a choice for everyone.

Shame on you Principle....if she had told her to keep it laid out flat, or in a pony or gel to keep it down, i would have supported her..but to tell her to straighten it! Shame on you !

We cannot allow our own standards of beauty to be subjugated by the ruling class of today. Learn our history and learn what great societies we have built and what we achieved. Once this knowledge is prevalent within our community, the 'need' to conform to these imposed beauty standards will stop. Read about Egypt, Aksum (the world's first christian empire), the writings about the Ethiopian's in Homer's 'Iliad', what Aristotle and Herodotus said, the Songhai empire, the libraries of timbuktu and Mansa Must (the richest man in history). Great documentaries by Gus Casely-Hayford, Henry Louis Gates and Basil Davidson can all be watched on YouTube. As for the afro itself, learn about its importance in the black power movement which was essential in gaining civil rights in the US (and no, do not learn about the great black panther party from Beyonce!)

Totally ridiculous that a child faces exclusion from school for wearing her hair in it's natural state. Do better school board, such discrimination surely goes against basic human decency!

I can't believe that people can be told their hair is wrong in this day and age. Black women have gorgeous hair and long may it stay that way
