No black or mixed race girl or woman should be forced to straighten or perm their natural hair to fit in with the ignorant view that afro hair is ugly. We are born with our afro hair and should be allowed to wear it in natural styles without ridicule or interference. #SupportThePuff.

being middle-aged, my waist length locs were chopped because of the same ignorance and constant nagging. so a bad weave or perm is better? cant imagine what a child would experiene.

What utter nonsense. We've been told for too long our beautiful hair is "nappy", "unkempt", "unruly" when really it's just full of life and versatility. No more conformity to the ideal that straight hair is the only acceptable, well done for standing up to your brainwashed principal #SupportThePuff

I'm mad at myself being ashamed of my hair when it is natural. Sick of destroying my hair with chemicals and heated tools, but I know acceptance in the workplace depends on these things, sadly. In fact, this issue is important to every woman no matter what colour they are. White people feel inclined to straighten out their curls/curl their straight hair/add volume to thin hair/thin out thicker hair when they could also just be proud of what they have too. I think we need to look inside ourselves and stop our own feelings of dissatisfaction with our hair before we can be too upset with how our hair is judged by others.

We are suppose to be moving forward and embracing our natural God given beauty. When will some Caribbean countries move away from this slave master mentality of believing that our hair is unruly and needs to be neat. By whose standards. The billion dollar perm industry dominated by white manufacturers who are rich while we embrace fibroids and other illness as a result of these measure taken to fit in and be neat. Shame on you head teacher. And as a experience teacher myself I am appalled. I'm in England and a black girl wearing her hair like that would never be a issue. Learn to live the real you.
