While I don’t believe Coach O should be fired, I also feel he should have never said the word out loud and does need training, as do so many in LSR7.

Joe has my vote! He has shown over the last 27 years what kind of a man, teacher and coach he is. It’s unbelievable that the district would even be pushing this considering the circumstances.

As a retired office staff in this district at a school other than PLMS, I can testify teachers were indeed told to write EXACT words on a referral for YEARS and to READ them back to a student for validation of accuracy. This was expected anytime a student was written up. Curse words, racial slurs, all were to be written exactly as the student said. It is a travesty that the superintendent, who has been here one year, does not take the time to investigate the character of Joe Oswald or to ask enough questions to realize Joe was doing his job he had been told to do up to this point. If the "N" word is never to be spoken by a teacher, then the discipline for students should most certainly be more than one day of ISS. You are taking a teacher's career for one day of ISS? If you want this word to stop being used, why not impose the maximum punishment on students for saying it and give them 10 days of OSS. Expect this to be on national headlines if the board does not do what is right. Good conversations can start from this moving forward; the right thing can still be done. Joe, ANY teacher in this district could be in your shoes right now, but for this to happen to a man of such high integrity that professional athletes are tweeting about you and men flew in from Dallas to represent you is a travesty and shameful to our leadership.

Coach O is the golden started of a man of true valor never has he ever wavered any signs or action of racism from his teaching to his coaching and even his own children. The way he is being mistreated shows the true problem of the lees summit district and those who are ahead of the board !

Is this what happens when you are following protocol? The teacher did his job. The person who said the "B" word should be the one in deep trouble not the teacher.
