Coach O is one best kind hearted humans on this planet. I can’t believe that we are even going through this right now. He’s passionate about his work, kids, and football.

Of all the employees of the LSR7 school district, Joe Oswald is the last person I would expect to see allegations made against his moral, ethical, and professional character. I worked with Joe for fourteen years at PLMS and believe him to be an excellent teacher and person of tremendous integrity. Whether in the role of teacher or coach, I have witnessed Joe to treat all students and athletes with the utmost respect. I sincerely ask all those who will take part in this hearing to seek all the facts and make a decision based on those facts and nothing more.

Coach O is everything that you would hope for in a coach. He always went the extra mile whether it was strapping on some pads to run scout team quarterback or staying late to make sure every athlete had a ride coming to pick them up. He is truly a man of character, integrity, and passion. Nothing but respect to say for Coach O.

I worked with Joe Oswald at PLMS for 10 years and witnessed his interactions with students on a daily basis in the classroom, in the halls and on the field. I never saw Joe be anything but respectful and encouraging with his students and his colleagues. He had high standards for his athletes and students but he always communicated in a kind and positive manner. I am heartbroken that he has been accused of anything that would constitute grounds for dismissal. The facts need to be carefully reviewed before Joe’s 29 year career and exemplary record is ruined.

It was my privilege to work with Joe Oswald on the Lee’s Summit High School football staff in the late 90’s when we were both assistant coaches there. At that time I learned very quickly that Coach Oswald treated all our athletes with respect and compassion. He is and was an excellent teacher who brought out the best in all the individuals with whom he worked. It were these excellent character and teaching qualities, as well as his tremendous enthusiasm for seeing young people succeed, that prompted me to get him hired to our boys track coaching staff as a sprint coach when I was assigned the position of head track and field coach at Lee’s Summit West high school. Joe continued to bring the best out in our student athletes and treat them all with great respect, regardless of their race or ethnicity. Based upon my experience in seeing Joe Oswald interact with many students of different races over many years and in many different situations, the idea that Joe Oswald would discriminate against or belittle a student with a racial comment or slur is, as the petition introduction mentions, ludicrous and obviously a fabrication.

Joe Oswald is a fantastic teacher who cares about all kids and is the most professional of educators. As an English teacher in the Lee's Summit school district for 16 years, I found Coach Oswald to be supportive of both staff and students. He set the bar and inspired students to achieve. I hope that Lee's Summit considers his longevity and history of educating students when making a decision on this matter. Sincerely, Lora Mashaney-Ulm

Joe Oswald is a person of character. I genuinely believe the Lee’s Summit R7 school district made a mistake that should be reconsidered.
