BE crew 08, USNA/ all patriot league ‘12

Being a part of the crew team was one of my favorite parts at Eustace and helped shape who I am today. I hope future students continue to have that opportunity!

Bishop Eustace Crew provided my family with invaluable skills and experiences. It’s a fabulous program and it is an asset to the school.

BE Crew paid a very important role in my granddaughter’s life.

You know how I feel about rowing! It shaped Christophe’s college career! As a two-year Hamilton College Men’s Rowing captain and as a senior a first-boat starboard rower, the work he had to put in to make that happen transformed him. And it all started with BE Crew and coach Dave. It does not make sense that a prep school located on the water with access to a boathouse does not understand the doors that can open via getting your students into collegiate rowing. I do not understand how all the schools around BE get how big rowing is in college, and how big it is in prep schools and other local “high-achieving schools”, yet BE is pretty much blind to it, as are the parents and students. It’s quite curious. Such a shame. I don’t think they’re looking at other successful schools for guidance. They seem to want to live in their own bubble.

This team made my best friend the woman she is today!!!

My daughter Elizabeth rowed for BE crew in 2008 - 2010 - Stotesbury Champions! She went on to be a scholarship rower at Drexel where she won medals at Dad Vail and rowed at Henley. Her teammates were her best friends and she learned so much about discipline and teamwork from this fantastic sport.

There is no sport that better prepares young men and women for the challenges that lie ahead and positions them better for success. It is inconceivable that a prep school located directly on the top rowing venue in the country where nearly every NCAA D1 conference championship is held and other national and international races are held would not support a rowing team.

I attended Bishop Eustace from 2016-2020 where I rowed all four years. Dave Specca was my coach and I can say Crew has been one of the most transformative experiences I’ve had in my life thus far. I was lucky to have been recruited by Drexel University where I achieved my dream of becoming a D1 athlete and competing at a national level. This sport has developed me character, work ethic, mentality, among many other attributes; but it would not have been possible if I did not show up that one day in highschool to a rowing practice.

It is a MISTAKE to cut this team. The cooper river is an incredible resource and the crew team is such a selling point to get kids into good and even Ivy League colleges who are highly active in recruiting rowers.

This program was instrumental in getting caitlin schemenski into and rowing for the united states naval academy. Where she became captain of the crew team and went on to serve her country as a helicopter pilot and become lt commander. The crew experience allows the students to become somthing greater than themselves. Big mistake ending this time honored tradition.

This is a great sport for all students. Please keep the Crew program going. My daughter grew so much while on the team!

Two of my children benefited from the life lessons of being part of a rowing team: hard work, discipline, strategy, the power of synchronization, true grit and so much more. It's part of the BE institution. Please find a way to keep the program.
