Two things need a bigger budget: one is education and the other is health care. Nurses are on the front line, asked to work extra and double shifts. This benefits no one. Hire more nurses!

We've lived in Mayo and we get to see how brutally these nurses are treated. Many have families. It is not fair and not safe!!!

Community nurses need to have rest to take care themselves so they can take care others and serve in community better. Nurses physical and mental health are compromise without the help that they need and not getting rest that human being need. They can only rest if have additional staffs helping them. It might be helpful to our community nurses if they rotate their shifts to have rest.

They should not be alone at any time. They should have a rotation of atleast 3 nurses. The communities, traveling puplic and the nurses deserve it.

Rentention is always a real problem in Yukon and Northern communities. I think that if you are going to hire more nurses, it may be beneficial to rotate them if possible - which may reduce burnout/exhaustion, and will have continuity of more positive attitudes, less racial labeling, and better care/attention to the people requiring it. Or maybe aim higher and start promoting/encouraging/supporting local citizens towards education/training programs to fill those jobs themselves would be ideal ultimately!! Just a thought.

Until you're in that situation you do not realize the importance of having Nurses that get to take time off and regular sleep schedules. This is an necessity that gets taken for granted by to many people. Let's help out our poor nurses! Give them extra staff to better serve the communities.

Exhausted nurses are not able to provide the care that is required for patients. Appropriate staffing that ensures nurses get adequate sleep and rest is essential.

I am retired now but worked in both Destruction Bay and Beaver Creek for several years and know first hand just how unsafe it can be for any nurse working alone especially during the busy seasons which included Christmas and New Years and of course the summer when there is increased traffic and more accidents. In the past Community Nursing has been more interested in the budget than the safety of the nurses. This lack of support for the nurses has impacted retention, I'm sure, and promotes unreasonable stress on nurses. I remember working for several months straight without relief despite my asking. Hopefully you will appreciate the importance of better supporting the front line nurses in the above mentioned communities.
