That is exactly why it is hard to get nurses to go to outposts. It is soooo undersupported. It is hard enough working in a hospital. The out post nurses work under dangerous conditions. No hosptial nurse would work 24/7 for weeks at a time. The Government of the Yukon won't pay the price for this. The patient and the nurses will. WAKE UP!!!!

These nurses cannot possibly provide the standard of care they would like to. If a person cannot go on a fishing trip for a week or spend the weekend out camping they are on call. If you want to retain high standard of care you have to make changes because at is now, the nurses are burning out.

Time off is time that you don't have to worry about phone calls. These nurses can't go away or plan anything because they have no relief. That is not time off. They need help!!

On call is not time off, if you are waiting for the phone to ring you are not relaxing or resting for the next emergency. Please recognize RN's for the quality work they provide to the communities,

It's simple. People are people and not machines, including nurses. Their energy isn't endless, and nurses need to be fresh enough to deal safely and effectively with any health care situations including emergency calls at any given time. Potentially nurses in communities may be exhausted when expected to deal with life and death situations - unreasonable and unacceptable. I know - have been there in my younger years all over the north. All nurses must be afforded regular rest to maintain safety for all. End of story - so it's time to step up to the plate, get on with it and deal with the nurse shortage issue, now.

It is much cheaper to have nurses and Doctors in the community than medevac sick people with plane. Government should take a larger picture than just direct cost.
