Thanks for this great comment, Mike. Right now there is a drawing for dividing the existing single surface between turf field and parking. The drawing for the turf field shows striping for soccer, football, and track but just because you paint stripes on a horse does not make it a zebra. That small size of a field cannot be used for any of those sports. The alternative that the community is proposing with the parking underneath uses almost the entire upper level and that CAN be successfully used for those sports as demonstrated by the drawings worked out with the architect and the community.

It is critically important that the dimensions and design of this field be developed with input from local sports organizations. Fields put in at other schools, like JO Wilson, were constructed in the wrong dimensions, which limits the use of the field on weekends for games -- also meaning a lost source of revenue for DC.
