Chevy Chase has some very dangerous streets with a lot of speeding and entitled drivers.

The number of pedestrian/bicyclist crashes has increased and so has the death count. Cars [think] they rule the road and that "roads are for cars". Wrong. Roads are to be shared by all modes of travel.

People want to live in communities in which they can walk, bike or take public transit to get to work, shopping and recreation. But this cannot happen unless our roads are redesigned to emphasize safety over vehicle throughput. The need to halt global warming adds to the urgency of this issue.

Pedestrian deaths can and should be prevented. I am scared to walk on tiny sidewalks with my kids. Better designed streets are possible and we can do it.

I would love to ride my bike and walk more, but it just isn't safe enough. A person shouldn't need to risk their life to get some exercise and fresh air while getting around in the county. Biking and walking have so many health benefits, but if we can't do it safely that has a big negative impact on public health.

As a resident of the country I have felt the roads are getting more dangerous for cyclists over the last 10+ years.

I am a pedestrian, a bicyclist, a public transit rider, and a driver. I am all for more roadway safety for walkers and bikers with dedicated paths, lights, and crossings, but I’m also for holding drivers who either drive recklessly or unconsciously responsible for creating dangerous situations. I think excessive fines or suspending licenses or something along those lines would fit speeding, not yielding to pedestrians, turning without looking, turning before pedestrian has cleared more than half the crosswalk, running long yellow or red lights, driving while texting or holding a phone up to ear, reckless driving. I have seen all these and I feel very unsafe, and I’m able-bodied. I am for a safe community and county for all ages and means of getting around.

Please do more to ensure the safety of our community's pedestrians and cyclists. As a resident in Rockville Town Square, the sounds of sirens and scenes of tragic accidents are sadly far too common these days. This issue is pervasive countywide.

I bike to work everyday via the few multi-use paths, sidewalks and the inevitable need to actually ride on a street or road. Every day I feel butterflies because It’s not as safe as it should be. Please help make it so.

About every other month I have to deal with drivers who stop for no pedestrian. The roads are just designed to be dangerous.

When I was in middle school, I was hit by a car in Glen Echo. Why? I was crossing Goldsboro Road to get to the bus stop for the 29, but the driver didn't see me because of limited visibility due to the curvature of the road and the design speed of the slip ramp from MacArthur Blvd. Two decades later, there is still no sidewalk or crosswalk along this road. MCDOT can and should do a better job of providing safe infrastructure all across Montgomery County to reduce avoidable deaths.
