The Rockville Pedestrian Advocacy Committee was recently formed to address these spasm dissuasion in our city. We look forward to working with theCounty and State to do more than talk about Vision Zero...but to reach it.

I was almost killed by an SUV driver on Wayne Avenue in SS on August 11. I was biking uphill on an empty sidewalk when the driver's brakes failed and she turned left and plowed me down. I was in the hospital shock trauma center for 10 days and now in a rehab facility. I am very interested in getting engaged in this work, however I believe there's work to be done in Annapolis, too.

Especially during this time of climate crisis, we cannot continue to only consider the needs of drivers. All residents need to be able to traverse the county safely.

I think the primary problem is driver behavior. Cellphone use at the wheel, speed and illegal manoeuvres at intersections. Need a crackdown on that.

We need a safer Montgomery County. Vision Zero is a nice thought, but it is way past time to back it up with actions.

We need a driver education campaign in multiple languages. We need pedestrian crossing signals at marked pedestrian crosswalks, particularly on busy roads.

Let's stop putting up with sub-par infrastructure that works only to discourage people from walking or biking (or getting to a bus or metro stop).

Protected bike lanes now. Bike lane enforcement. Distracted driver enforcement. This number for MoCo is terrible.

Let's see some vigorous enforcement of the traffic code - AND a better example set by MCPD cruisers.

For too long, we've heard talk without action. It's time the County stands by its promise to get us to zero deaths and takes action on Vision Zero.
