Stand in Support of Vision Zero

Pedestrian safety is a huge issue in Olney. Cars fly by and pedestrians run for their lives!

I fully support Councilmember Glass's efforts in support of Vision Zero.

Too many deaths and injuries in Montgomery County! This needs to stop.

Let's work for Zero. Distracted driving, distracted walking, ill-lit cylists and pedestrians, as well as poor driving and the need for more bike lanes: All deserve attention.

why would pedestrians need to push a button to get crossing signal? That is both inconsistently applied and really stupid

*more sidewalks! (protected if possible) *more bike lanes (protected when possible!) *separate bike and pedestrian paths when possible *pedestrian bridges *dedicated walk signs at a different time as turn arrows for cars (not at the same time!) *pedestrians have a responsibility to watch for cars!!!!!! *Cell phones for drivers and pedestrians cause distractions!!! *less visually confusing roads-too much visually going on! *traffic circles seem dangerous to me! *more stop signs *more speed bumps

Let's absolutely do all we can think of to improve pedestrian safety - it needs attention. Just stop before going overboard with steps that might look good but wouldn't actually add to effectiveness, e.g. in my opinion the new narrowed passages on Dale Drive between Colesville and Georgia Ave. Speed bumps should be a last resort.

Let's not forget to educate the pedestrians about distracted walking.

Attention to this issue is long overdue—please push forward!

As a very lucky survivor with no major injuries to deal from an incident when I was hit by an automobile driver while in a crosswalk, I fully support all efforts of traffic engineering and enforcement, awareness campaigns and oversight to improve the Maryland safety record starting here where we live, for the benefit of everyone. I am so sorry for the losses the families of those maimed and killed in traffic accidents, especially the preventable crashes involving vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians all. We can do better, we have to to keep our communities places we want to live and work.

Safety first. Protected bike lanes a must. Don't cut bus routes. Do everything possible to bring alternatives to cars on the road

I have both witnessed and lost a friend to a pedestrian/truck collision. I have also witnessed a bike/auto collision. I would argue that both were entirely avoidable. I couldn't agree more with the need to make roads safer everywhere.

Let's take care of our citizens who are on foot, on bikes or in vehicles, by first taking care of road safety!

Good luck with this. We can make the county much better for bikers and pedestrians with this plan.

Sidewalks are crazy inconsistent throughout neighborhoods. They should be everywhere. Bradley Blvd is a huge bike, pedestrian road with no safe trails or sidewalks.

The need for such a position is clear. Montgomery County must learn from bicycle usage elsewhere.

Some things that are needed: 1. Sidewalks along busy streets that currently lack them (e.g., Bannockburn neighborhood). 2. Pedestrian-activated crossing signals at crosswalks located at busy locations (e.g., River Road at Pyle Road). 3. Bike lanes - protected wherever possible - along main roads popular with cyclists. 4. 4-way stop signs at busy neighborhood intersections (e.g. Kenhowe Drive and Pyle Road).

Biking and walking should be easy, and safety is a necessary condition for that.
