Support Sustainability on the UW-Madison Campus

A wonderful cause!

Let's make sure the UW is a leader in creating a sustainable future.

Climate change is here & it is real. Every individual & institution must take it seriously & take measures to work against it. An opportunity for UW-Madison to build a strong sustainability and climate mitigation plan for the West District. I strongly urge the Board of Regents and State Building Commission to favorably act on it.

I work at the UW School of Nursing and strongly support a sustainable, green West Campus redesign!

As a member of First Unitarian Society, which put on a Leed-certified/gold addition, I feel strongly that the west campus, which abuts our building, should be sustainably developed as well.

This is so important!

We need comprehensive sustainability plans that include all student voices, as equal stakeholders from the start of project development. Offering students the opportunity to provide feedback on plans already formed limits the scope of possibilities to university priorities and perspectives.

As a proud Badger alum (MS, 2003), I hope UW will lead in fighting climate change!

Just in case anyone is curious why my location said "New York," it is due to a VPN.

I also hope the West Campus District Plan concerns the Lake Mendota shoreline. Regarding parking and transportation, I hope UW realizes that single-occupancy vehicles are not a priority for its community by minimalizing parking spaces and reevaluating parking ramps. Carbon-neutral, aka net-zero energy, plans are a must for our "sustainable" university. Please note UW is at the bottom of UW's STARS reporting--yes, UW itself is at the lowest point in its rating system. Anyone who follows Madison developments, like consistent new apartments, should know my advice for sustainable building development and can check public comments for such. In all campus and downtown area developments I support sustainability for reasons such as low operational costs for developers, taxpayers, and students. A university that proudly cites its connections to John Muir, Aldo Leopold, Gaylord Nelson and other pathbreaking conservationists not only should, but must make environmental sustainability a top priority.

We must lead the way and demonstrate how to help mitigate and adapt to climate change, biodiversity decline, resource degradation, and social inequality.

It must be possible--and it's certainly smart--for UW-Madison to put its sights toward excellence in sustainability. I value all the efforts so far and the many still needed to make it happen with the West Campus plan.

We need UW-Madison to design and implement a sustainable, climate friendly , equitable West Campus District plan. Demonstrate what we know and embody the reality we need. It's strategic to be the change, but not climate change!

UW-Madison has lagged other higher ed institutions in taking sustainability seriously!

This is an important opportunity for UW-Madison to exihibit sustainability leadership by employing significant environmental and social sustainability standards for this development.

(irony) - please, more all glass buildings that look nice but kill the planet with resource consumption. it's not your dime, push it on tax payers and students to foot the bill. throw in a bike rack to make it LEED certified and it's all okay? riiiiiiight. wake. up.
