The shooting sports build character. I was taught marksmanship by an ordained minister at YMCA camp when I was in grade school.
In case you were wondering how much my childhood experiences warped my development, please note that I graduated as valedictorian of my prep school class, and have two Ivy League degrees, including a doctorate in the hard sciences. I must say that it is unfortuate that I was unable to continue my marksmanship training during those college years, but as you well know, such activities are not consistent with liberal politics. I hope that you will not succumb to that trend of political correctness.

There are at least 28 colleges and universities that have organized claybird/shotgun sports teams. They compete on a national basis and several of these schools offer scholarships to expert shooters ... why not SIMPSON?

What a responsible sport, caring participants. Diversity of interests abound in the students. A few should NOT have the sway over a safe and positive activity that you should be proud of! This is another method competition, why would you want to put out that flame?!

Shooting clay pigeons is an age old internationally recognized sport that even has a home in the summer Olympics. Don't let irrational fear mongering rip this safe and ever growing activity out of the hands of college athletes.

As a collegiate shooter myself who has fallen in love with the sport over the past year, I commend you as a university on helping to grow the Simpson shooting club. I hope to see this sport continue to grow over the next four years while I am a student and in the years beyond. Hiring a coach is a major step in the right direction and hopefully you will continue to support and grow the Simpson College Shooting Sports Club.

As a recent graduate of a liberal arts college in Ohio - a college that during my time there voted intelligently to arm our campus police with more than stunners, hopes and dreams after the city police failed miserably in a mock shooting situation- I feel very strongly about this issue. Clay shooting is an international sport in high regard around the world. Sporting shot guns are not used in mass shootings. Guns in campus owned safes are not used in mass shootings. Mentally active and socially engaged student athletes are not mass shooters. Stopping this club from growing and removing it from your campus would be an emotionally driven knee jerk reaction that has no semblance of being based on facts or grounded in reality. As an institution of higher learning- hold yourself to a higher standard and support sports, students, the constitution, and fact based decision making.

As a Simpson College graduate, I would be very disappointed to see the learning opportunities this club provides be taken away from these students. In an age where one can choose to be a victim of social irresponsibility, or one can lead by showing trust and develop our next generation of leadership, my hope is that Simpson College continues to lead.

I think this is a necessary sport that should be offered at every college and high school. Simpson is a private college and should sponsor any club they choose.

Education in today's world must include safe use of guns. We have noticed how shooting sports programs in Iowa High Schools have fostered gun safety. Why shouldn't this be the case with our colleges and universities? Keep the program on track.

I've been a competitive shooter since I was 10—and I'm going on 19 now. Not in sporting clays, but 10m Air Rifle and 50m Smallbore Rifle. I took home a lot of trophies, and it taught me the value of hard work and safe gun ownership. It's a wholesome sport. People are afraid of what they don't understand. I can only hope that y'all's political opponents get a chance to shoot so they can see it isn't bad at all, but a helluva lot of fun! Good luck.

This is a great program the college should keep it around. I learned to shoot in cub scouts teaching young people this skills will only make them safer around guns.

The second amendment is not a privledge its a right this program not only teaches students how to use guns but teaches them how to do it safely why would anyone take that away
