I would encourage you to go forward and hire a coach.

Education of young people on the disciplines of the shooting sports creates a positive experience for the youth as well as the community at large. Simply becoming fearful of guns gives the power to guns to influence your actions and opinions versus pursuing true understanding of what this sport is about and how it is such a positive tool for personal and professional growth through the development of mental toughness and character.

Dissolving this program would be a rash and knee jerk decision. I have had up to 60 middle school and high school students on the team I coach. The program provides opportunities to be successful for the non prototypical athletic students. Why dissolve a program that provides students with opportunities to be successful in something they enjoy?!

My daughter is a Simpson grad and active in the shooting sports. This program was not in existence when she attended Simpson or she would have participated.

They need to look across the state at what other programs like this have done... There is no good reason not to have a program at Simpson. It is such a great college and for them to be narrow minded and not looking at the facts of this sport makes the college look bad.

I have been involved in coaching high school kids in trap shooting for eight years now. In my experience, the shooting sports have instilled respect for and knowledge of firearms safety in all our young athletes.

I grew up hunting and target shooting with my father and brothers and sisters. My son is a member of the Cedar Falls High trap team. Don't know the specifics of why you are considering dropping this club but I wouldn't send my kids to Simpson for this reason alone.

Please reconsider the loss of such a valuable program. This sport opens the door for competition to those students who don't fit the stereotypical " athlete " definition.

This has been an unbelievable program even at the high school level and there is no reason that this should not be offered at the college level to keep these kids involved in extracurricular activities.

I commend the students who championed a club based on Iowa and Midwest heritage. I further urge Simpson to recognize the skill, community, and great benefit such a group can have on the campus, as well as, towards the recruitment of incoming or potential students. My safety concerns are set aside if proper safety precautions are implimented. Sincerely, Amanda Ruff 10'
