As a founding member of this great club I whole heartedly believe it wod be a terrible mistake to abolish this organization. Simpson prides itself on having a club and activity for everyone. Shooting sports is just that. A recreational sport. It offers students who enjoy the sport to do so while attending Simpson. I made so many new friends at Simpson through Shoooting Sports that I would not have made otherwise.

I have been in shooting sports clubs similar to this since middle school. It has always been a fun, safe way to learn firearm safey and control.

A club such as this gives Simpson College students the opportunity to compete with other Colleges and Universities that have similar clubs. It is important to show that firearms can be used safely and responsibly in a competitive environment. Firearm competition has been a part of the summer Olympic games since 1896 and the U.S. has participated in every game since then. The summer Olympics include skeet, trap, rifle and handgun competitions. The U.S. team has been awarded 107 medals; twice as many as any other country. I am a certified firearm safety instructor and have worked with the Scouts for their rifle marksmanship merit badge, with the Simpson Shooting Sports Club and teach hunter safety for the Iowa DNR. It is a legitimate sport and worthy of recognition by Simpson College.

This was a fantastic experience for my daughter on multiple levels: confidence building, leadership, team strategy, commitment, perseverance, advocating, fundraising, self defense, etc. If anything, this group should be promoted more.

Why take something away when its the only thing some students do for extracurricular activities?

Shooting clubs have played an important role throughout American history. They have taught millions of youngsters the proper way to handle a gun and gun safety. By taking away this club you are punishing the rights of these individuals who choose learn the correct way for those few who choose to cause terrible chaos for their 15 minutes of fame. Taking away this club only punishes the law-abiding citizens by taking away their right to defend themselves.

This is a great club to teach a new skill and a lifelong skill and creates an even wider variety of activities to be involved in for current and future students. It is a widely growing sport across the state of Iowa. Many high schools are starting trap teams and those students will be looking for somewhere to continue involvement as they move into their college career.

As the president of the University of Iowa Shooting Sports Club, I can confidently tell you the shooting sports world will produce some of the most disciplined and hard working people coming out of college. I ask any of those protesting this program should take some time to observe how a program operates on a daily basis. Your opinion will be changed.

Keep the program. It is the only way for me to shoot.

I strongly support the positive direction Simpson College has taken to support the shooting sports club. As a Coach and Adviser of a collegiate shooting club, I can testify to the extensive time commitment needed to do both. A well organized and coached competitive shooting team will always represent the host school well. This is a good decision. Lee Van Brocklin. Clay target sports are some of the safest anyone could participate in. Not sure why anyone would be against it.

This club should not be shut down! It helped me further understand fire arm safety and enjoy the sport of clay shooting.

I was taught not only gun safety but a lot about personal safety and defense WITHOUT guns. The SCSSC was a major part of my undergraduate experience that I would never change.
