Shooting sports is a program that teaches gun safety, focus, consistency, dedication, and responsibility. I have been involved in our High School shooting sports program for 4 years and have seen the positive impact it has had on the kids that have participated.

Both of my sons participated in this all 4 years of high school. Great program & also an added bonus to the colleges that offer it when students are deciding where to further their education.

As a coach for the Ankeny Jaguar High School Team, finding colleges that support shooting sports is essential. Participation in sports at the collegiate level is an outstanding way to keep students engaged in school and to keep them striving to maintain scholastic excellence. One of the greatest take aways for a student in shooting sports, is the mental toughness and the development of an I can achieve this goal attitude that will cross over into their professional lives and careers..

Shooting as a sport is incredible in the character it instills in young people. It requires immense self discipline and self control. It teaches safety, respect and courtesy like no other sport. All shapes, personalities, sizes and talent can compete on an equal level. Before anyone can be against shooting at Simpson, they need to meet these young people and see them in action. They can only come away impressed.

Trapshooting is one of the safest and oldest sports in America. It is truly a gender neutral and physical neutral sport that is scored and not graded.

As participant in the clay target sports for over 35 years and a coach for our local high school team for the past 8, I can tell you that this is great sport.
It truly does give the non traditional athlete the opportunity to compete for their school.
My son is a member of the Iowa State Trap and Skeet team and I am quite sure his participation in the program is one reason for him staying in college and working towards his degree.
Please do not give in to the 'guns are bad' crowd.

Please continue to promote this safe sport that gives another opportunity for our young people to learn about sportsmanship, team sports and achievement. I have coached SCTP, and my son was involved in it for 5 years. It is a fantastic sports program that teaches many life principles, including but certainly not limited to responsible gun handling and ownership.

At the High School level, the shooting sports have grown over the last several years. Being a Trap Coach on the Indianola HS Trap team, I can tell you that many of the young students are looking at colleges that they can continue on participating in this sport. Thanks!

My local school district started a trap shooting club two years ago. In our second year, the number of participants more than doubled. This year we are expecting even more participants and are now struggling to find range time. The shooting sports is an excellent way to teach gun safety, responsibility, and the foundations of a sport which you can enjoy your entire lifetime. No special athletic ability is needed to participate, just a willingness to learn and enjoy the sport. I ask that you support the Simpson club and hiring a new coach. I am sure that you will see the positive impact that it makes on your students and on your campus.

We are happy to support the club and it's endeavors. Student organized clubs like this give the opportunity for so much more than competition. Perhaps engaging in a face-to-face dialogue between the two parties about the concerns is warranted.

Shooting Sports club is a great competitive sport that provides a safe and friendly atmosphere where you can set goals to improve your skill level. It also provides a platform to meet professionals around Iowa and beyond. Shooting Sports is open to those with a lot of experience or very little experience, safety always being number one. This club provides links to veterans, professionals, and friends that are helpful after the college life as well as providing events open to the campus.
