The shooting sports shape the character of some of our finest officers and citizens. These are disciplined participants in an Olympic sport. Can those opposed say as much? -SCTP Coach, Range Safety Officer

My son is currently a freshman high school Trap Team member and I would love for him to be able to attend a college like Simpson and participate on the Trap Team while earning his bachelor's degree. If there is not a Trap Team when he begins his search for a college, I am afraid Simpson will not be a college he will pursue.

I fully support Simpson's decision to offer and enable a shooting sports program. This is a rapidly growing sport nation wide and is becoming a large consideration on whether or not many students enroll in a particular institution. Many of my athletes ask me for information on schools with these types of programs and I am very much in favor of institutions such as yours that offer this type of opportunity as well as superior academic opportunities. As president of our Warren County Ikes chapter I am very proud of our youth and young adults that participate in the shooting sports. In a safe manner, with proper training from great coaches and other adults and students. We expanded our shooting grounds in order to support the interest from all of the young shooters in and around Warren County.

Having a relationship with a trapshooting organization will also help Simpson College be better representative of the culture within the community and colleges of Iowa. Continuing a relationship with sportsmen/sportswomen as a school activity will provide the college a continued avenue to being diverse. In American culture today there can be a stigma attached to or phobia of sportsmen/sportswomen and/or firearms; Simpson College can be proactive in overcoming the hatred and oppression of bigoted individuals.

I support the rights of the students to want a shooting club. Shooting sports require practice and determination just like many other sports.

As a supporter of 4H shooting sports and a parent of an active participant, I encourage the continued support of this program so that young shooters can continue their shooting careers at the collegiate level.

Simpson college should take the "high road" and embrace the Simpson Shooting Sports Club and it's young members. Don't negate their proud achievements by closing the doors on this successful athletic program.

To deprive one their constitutional rights is as heinous as the commitment of an actual crime.

I would encourage the board of trustees to support the shooting sports team and hire a shooting sports coach. The shooting sports is an activity that anyone regardless of disability or gender can compete on an equal basis.
