When we started our Program up back in 2009 we had the same problem, only with our downtown adm. Then we invited them to come out to a practice and see what was going on (since none of them have ever experienced or seen trap..and I bet that is the same for these alumni at simpson) after that they were all on board and we have their full support now. So I would try to get the naysayers out to a practice or meet and let them see what is going on. Hope this helps. R. Gill Founder of the Davenport Youth Trap Shooting Club

Dear Board of Trusties, I would urge the Simpson College board to support the college shooting team. Shooting sports are one of the few athletic endeavors that allow women to compete on the same level as men. It also allows those who are not athletic enough or big enough to play other sports to compete in college athletics at a high level. It is the only sporting venue that allows handicapped individuals to participate in a nationally recognized college sport. The shooting sports help build character and responsibility in its participants and its safety record is much better than any other college sport you could name. You would be doing a great disservice to Simpson College and its students if you dissolve the shooting sports program. Sincerely, Marc Roberg

The shooting sports give student athletes the opportunity to participate and compete in a life-long sport. It offers alternative to other sports that require height, weight, strength and speed in order to succeed. Students engage competitively, develop life-long relationships and become leaders, demonstrating their skills in safe, controlled environment. The shooting sports are increasingly popular, and for Simpson to diminish the sport would be a great disservice to current and future students.

This is a safe way for students to be involved in the sport. It gives students an activity to be a part of and form bonds with other students of the same interest.

I have a daughter who is a trap shooter in Ankeny. She is looking only at local colleges that offer trap shooting. She will be a senior next year. I have never seen a more disciplined and well behaved group of athletes. Last year we were at the State meet with our daughter's team and with over 3000 kids from 7th-12th grade, all carrying guns, there wasn't a single safety incident. This sport has given my daughter a confidence unmatched by any other activity. She is also in honors sciences, marching band, key club, silver cord, and theatre.

This is a great club for Simpson to have and brings more kids to campus. This gives kids the opportunity to exercise their 2nd amendment and show off the skills they have gained in a controlled environment.
