Support the Simpson College Shooting Sports Club

As a college professor who personally participates in shooting sports, I encourage you to not back down from your position, but support these important activities among your students. They build confidence and character.

Mr. President & Board of Trustees, You need to continue to support the shooting sports and continue moving forward hiring a coach and sponsoring a collegiate team. Shooting sports are the fastest growing sports in the USA and actually have one of the lowest injury rates. Many of the same qualities developed on the traditional athletic fields are developed through shooting shorts; hard work, discipline, teamwork, and commitment. If the concerns are around having students possessing firearms on campus, as an Indianola resident, I know we can come up with a solution. Promoting firearm safety should always be supported!

It has been proven that shooting sports are safer than golf, football, baseball, etc.

As a parent of two kids that does STCP I have seen my kids grow with confidence both in themselves and their abilities. And the coaches and the shooting sports has helped that .

Iowa is proud of our outdoor heritage..... please follow through with your plan to allow young men and women to pursue their passion while attending your school. I think you will find the attention to detail that is an absolute asset in shooting sports to carry over into the classroom.

Don't let political correctness sway your choice. Stand with the ambitious leaders in your team who are providing more opportunities for your students.

Anyone who has been to a trap shoot knows the dedication and safety that is done with this sport. Respect, safety and responsibility is taught as well as the skill. I am not sure what the concern is with the protesters?

As High School Trap coach in Nebraska, I would hate to see a program get shut down before it gets going.

Safety and respect of firearms comes from familiarity with the guidance of knowledged individuals. By opposing shooting sports clubs, people only grow the ignorance of safe firearm handling. Continue to foster shooting clubs such as these to give individuals of all backgrounds and abilities to participate in safe, guided handling of firearms.

I support shooting sports. It teaches safety and respect.

Please give strong consideration to retaining the shooting sports club. There many students across our state participating and enjoying the shooting sports.

I hope Simpson College stands behind their original decision to support the shooting sports. As past president of the Iowa State Trapshooting Association I can say it is important to continue to expose young people to this great sport that they can enjoy for their entire life.

Let's stop attacking sports that keep young people, goal driven..

As a member of the Warren County Izaak Walton League and the Trap Shooting Committee Chair, I have had the privilege of working with some of the members of the Simpson College Shooting Sports Club. In Working with the members of the Simpsons Athletes there are several things that stand out and should be mentioned. During every athletic event that these representatives of Simpson College have hosted, whether it be a practice or a completion with several other colleges in attendance. I witnessed some of the most courteous, well behaved and best sportsmanship of ANY ATHLETIC EVENTS I have ever attended or been a part of. We at the Izaak Walton League see this in not only the Collegiate Shooting Sports, but in ALL SCHOLASTIC SHOOTING SPORTING EVENTS, High School, 4H, and FFA shooting teams We have hosted events with over 200 athletes from several different communities competing. Not once have we seen any inappropriate, rude, or un-sportsman like behavior from any of the athletes, spectators or parents. Just safe, fun, and competitive sporting events. I challenge any one to go to any other athletic event with this many participants be it a football, baseball, basketball, volleyball, or soccer and make the same claim. This should paint a pretty good picture of how the Student Shooting Sports Programs are run and managed!!!! As mentioned in other comments, please consider that the shooting sports include students who may never get a chance to participate in an athletic event because they do not possess the genetic physic to compete. And that every athlete gets to participate, not just the elite and strong athletes. While all the others sit on a bench waiting and never get chance to experience the excitement, fun of a safe competitive sport. To remove Scholastic Shooting Sports will sadly remove this opportunity to some very deserving students. Respectfully James E Lear
