It's appalling at how many people judge... As Methodist/Christians or anyone that follows Jesus Christ we are taught not to judge and that's exactly what's taking place here. The petition to remove the shooting sport is based on notions that someone will use a firearm to kill or somehow commit a hanious crime like some of societies deranged minds have done in the past. This is judging the great students that take pride in attending this college and by doing so your going against the Christian religion. I hope that with actual common sense..... This school and it's students can resume their sport of shooting and with it educate not only themselves but the political agenda that's taking place!

I strongly support the Simpson shooting sports club and the hiring of a full-time coach. I was able to attend one of the club's educational events and learn to safely target shoot with a variety of rifles and handguns. This is a legitimate, competitive sport in Iowa and internationally. I first learned to shoot as a kid with a basic BB gun and then a .22 at camp. I do not own a gun now, but closing the door on an opportunity to recruit great Iowa kids (because some people fail to see it as highly skilled and very safe sport) would be a real shame. Please give your support to the students and advisors of the club, and to future students who would like to participate in it at Simpson.

This group is a great way to educate students to use guns reapectfully and responsibly while also competing at a collegiate level. I fully support the shooting sports club as a Simpson graduate and hope that more colleges get on board with similar programs. Simpson College will not see a dime from me if this group is disbanded. Mark my words.

Gun sports have a place in extracurricular sports! The key is COACHING and teaching gun safety. DO NOT cave in to the people who make the simplistic assumption that all guns = bad.

The use of shotguns to teach shooting skills for the sport of clay bird shooting is a far cry from helping people to commit mass murders. Threes shooting sports are something that is found in many Iowa schools from middle school up to and including college. They teach responsible gun ownership and control as well as help connect students with similar interests. It is my opinion that these groups are a great asset to our schools and society in raising responsible firearms owners for the future.

Churches have come to a local range in our area to spend whole weekends in fellowship learning to shoot. Never been a safety issue. It's America's oldest sport.

Hey David, shooting clubs and teams are BIG in Iowa High Schools. Recruiting of students to a small private college is ever more difficult. There are 35 students who have chosen Simpson because they can be part of the shooting club, as they do in other sports. You also are effectively asking for the team to be banned as students can't house their own guns on campus, and the protocols are extremely safe. I would also like to add that if a student wanted to come to campus with a fire arm and do harm, I don't think the campus being gun free would stop them. There are many clubs at Simpson I do not support, but I do not wish for them to be banned. Diversity to the left is to include only those things they agree with...
