My boys both started shooting trap through 4-H at 12 years old. My youngest is on our high school squad and my oldest now shoots for SWCC. It has been a great opportunity for them. As a Simpson alumni, I am more than happy to sign this petition!

Just having a gun makes it more likely that you will be injured by a gun. There's plenty of data backs that hypothesis.
BUT this can be mitigated. If you get training in firearms. Learn how to safely handle them. Learn how to secure a gun when it is not in use. Learn from mistakes that other people have made. Have a mentor that keeps you learning how to best use a firearm in a safe controlled manner. Make a recurring investment in training on the proper use of firearms. Have someone watch and offer feedback. All of this can reduce the risk.
I think this is a perfect opportunity for Simpson to help students. Almost half of households in the U.S. own a gun. Let's be part of teaching that half.
I think the most dangerous option in the gun control debate is to have a gun, but not the education.
