I would like to add my support of this program as i feel that the more people are taught about shooting sports and gun safety, the less afraid society will be of the legal firearms and the more that will enjoy shooting sports in general.

Firearms have had a significant part in our country's founding and history. That coupled with the rise of shooting sports in secondary and post secondary institutions, it would benefit Simpson College to continue and expand their shooting sports teams and activities.

I am co-advisor to the Illinois State University Trap & Skeet Club and urge you, in the strongest way, to continue to support the Simpson College Shooting Sports Club. I find it ironic that we in academia feel a great obligation to accommodate those who embrace "alternate" views, no matter how extreme, yet we seem to feel no obligation to extend that same consideration to those who embrace a traditional, constitutionally protected view.

since this is a benign sport, and is also a basic human and civil right, there is a compelling reason to NOT coach this? make a good decision here. STORM!

I am all for gun safety and security. I have lost a family member to gun violence but this is a sport and is no threat. Please allow this to continue and get a coach for the group.

The high school club in Ankeny was a great experience for my kids.

A shooting sports team develops disciplines not readily available in other college course, not to mention the development of outstanding citizens who will recognize and obey our civil society!

Simpson Alum Class of 1990. I fully support the shooting club. It has become all to apparent that the 2nd amendment needs to be supported to the fullest extent possible and part of that is education on firearms and their positive and safe uses.

I support Simpson College's decision to establish a shooting sports program, and hiring an expert to run the program. Please allow this generation of students the same opportunity to learn the proper and safe use of firearms that previous generations have enjoyed.

Students that play football are statistically at higher risk of injury than those who are involved in competitive shooting. Please do not make decisions while under the influence of the media.

The discrimination against gun owners on campus is outrageous don't spread that hatred and bigotry to the athletes. They Still Give Olympic Gold Medals for Shooting!

Mankind is prone to fear what they do not understand. The best thing we can do is to educate people in every way possible that a firearm is simply a tool, nothing more and nothing less, and the only way to become efficient with any tool is to be educated and to practice with it.

2007 Alumni: I was lucky to have grown up in an area of Iowa that had access to a high school trap shooting team. This was an extracurricular activity that is highly structured and provided a great deal of enjoyment and discipline into my life. I would ask the Board of Trustees to get all of the facts about the shooting sports students are involved in here and look at the types of firearms and disciplines involved in comparison to the hyperbole that has been suggested in the other petition.

What a great opportunity for young athletes. it would be a loss for the university and for students who excel in shooting sports and not other sports.

I hope you keep your Trapshooting program. Here in Minnesota it is now the largest of the High School Sports programs. Girls and Boys shoot. In the End they have a State Shoot....they had 8,600 Kids last year expect 10,000 this spring!! They could have more ...but for the lack of trap ranges. The State of MN has put in over 3,000,000.00 dollars to Gun Clubs to help this. That was matched buy the clubs for another #,000,000.00. Thank you, Harold E. Link

As a gun owner, I believe that responsible gun ownership is important, and that is what Simpson College is supporting here.

I am a gun owner and believe in the importance of teaching responsible gun ownership. Most importantly though, I believe in giving as many opportunities as we can to our children to encourage personal growth! Shooting sports are a big part of many 4-h and school organizations across our state. Why not give college students another reason to consider Simpson?
