The fact that someone out of pure emotion wants to tell these boys and girls how to live their lives in such a way is horrendous and completely un-American. I truly hope the board does not give in to this fear-mongering and allows the students to have a fully fledged club/ organization that can continue this wonderful sport. It seems that this is the likely course of action, and I applaud any and all support on behalf of the school and the club to introduce a full-time coach for the team.
If they are not a member of the school, or in some way financially connected for it's functions, they should not be listened to, end of story.
I would have loved to have this at my school, absolutely loved it. I love this sport, it has given me many friends over the years that I would otherwise not have had, and many fond memories with more to come.
Keep smacking those clays ladies and gents! I'm sorry your organization has been dragged into this political hell-hole that we all currently suffer.

I read with interest the recent Des Moines Register article about this issue. At the risk of stating the obvious, I would suggest the following: 1. the activity is legal; 2. the activity is popular among students; 3. safeguards are in place; 4. participation is voluntary; 5. the activity is not at odds with spiritual growth and development, nor with the traditions of a liberal arts education; 6. Trustee decisions based upon political correctness do not enhance the College's attractiveness, and have led parents and students to question the value of liberal arts institutions; 7. the implied moral superiority of some opponents of the activity should be acknowledged and discounted.

I'm the Head Coach and Advisor for our Universities shooting club and I know, first hand, what a positive influence the shooting sports can have on college aged kids. Simply do not allow the paranoia of a few ruin a wonderful experience for many.

As a Grandparent of one of your students, a U.S. Army Retired Army Veteran (over 22 years of active duty service), and licensed to carry a weapon in Iowa, I fully support Simpson College Shooting Sports Club. One of the biggest complaints against gun owners is their lack of training. Well keep up the good work and continue to train and promote a sport that takes skill and a lot of practice. Perhaps it might be added to the Olympics as an event! :-)

I support the Simpson College Shooting Sports Club. Sport shooting is a traditional American pastime and a legitimate sport. In fact, prominent colleges in the U.S. offer shooting scholarships. Developing shooting skill and learning safety and best practices can only be a GOOD thing. The issue of gun violence is a completely separate matter from this and it is completely inappropriate for outsiders with a political agenda to interfere with student activities.

It is the right of every American to keep and bear arms; not every American practices this right, but every American should have the opportunity to experience it in a safe and professional environment. Such a club as the Simpson College Shooting Sports Club would give this opportunity to members of your student body, and would broaden the horizons of anyone interested in joining.
