Support the Simpson College Shooting Sports Club

All gun rights should protected and expanded.

I support this club. Keep up the good work!

I wish to declare my support of the shooting range and club at your school. Please don't let this be undermined by a group that completely misunderstands the concept and positive nature of this activity.

I support the shooting club and without it my kids will not consider Simpson to further their education. Please protect what is in place.

I request your continued support for the Simpson College Shooting Sports Club. People have to realize that guns do not kill people. People kill people. Sport shooting clubs are established for people who enjoy leisure or competitive shooting. They are not designed to train the next generation of serial killers or terrorists. Shooting clubs such as this one provide a great environment for young people to safely learn a sport that they can enjoy all of their life. I would ask that make all efforts to continue this program at Simpson College and not allow outside pressure to dictate your decision. Thank you.

I am signing this because as a past Warren Co Ikes president & member, I feel these programs teach gun safety, handling & educate our young citizens a very helpful & enjoyable tool. Please proceed as planned & continue a great program!!

As a boy, I learned to target shoot at the YMCA here in Des Moines. We had high quality former US Army training .22 Long Rifle heavy barrel bolt action rifles. There never was a negligent discharge, as safety was carefully and repetitiously drilled into us. Somewhere along the way, people who could not think clearly and held anti-firearms feelings managed to extinguish what was an outstanding program. What is happening is a good thing, for it offers an opportunity to all students to learn how to safely handle firearms, and the most important thing - gun control. Gun control is hitting your target and not endangering others who may be in the area. I think the study by American Sports Data speaks to, and dismisses, the red herring of "The sky is falling---guns are dangerous." The most dangerous thing in the world is the human mind, for it can create whatever it can conceive. How many of your football plyers have TCE? How many baseball plyers injured? Basketball plyers? And not one shooter?? That in itself should be sufficient to cause you to disregard those who want to disband the shooting program. THEY CLEARLY DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT, DO THEY? If they did, they wouldn't be saying the things they are. For them, reality is based on strong opinions which flow from powerful emotions. Shooting clays does not promote gun violence. It is purely a sport and, if anything, promotes understanding of firearms and how to handle them safely.

What good would it do to stop supporting this program?

I support the shooting sports including the Simpson College Shooting Sports Club. No different than any other sport and should be supported the same.

As a fellow competitive 3 gun participant I full support the simpson shooting program. My hope is to see the collage,community continue to support it as well.

I want to know the names and any information of those whom claim or portray themselves as "anti-gunners"!

I feel that the Simpson College Shooting Club indeed be supported and not dissolved because for many people this helps perfect the skills needed to help feed the students future family. Due to the large outcry against firearms the are many people who have sought to ban firearms in all forms. Yet to deny the student body one particular club would be completely unjust since this is a politically motivated push by individuals that are uneducated in firearms, their use and proper safety protocol which is what is being learned by the club in question. For Simpson, or any other academic body, to discriminate against one club who are not participating in any illegal activities as a club and support another club that is more politically correct is educating the student body, and faculty to a lesser extent, to promote unfair biased and that it is morally right to do so based on flawed reasoning. It is still an adult's right to choose what forms of entertainment that they indulge themselves in. Although it is indeed the right of the individual college to make policies that they feel makes the student body safe, they must still abide by the individual's right to choose. If they fail to comply with that right then they must acknowledge that they discriminate against an individual's fundamental rights. This would be no different to deny a student or faculty member the right to choose to worship any deity that they so choose. I understand that is a far cry from firearm ownership but it goes to show that once a group starts to protest against one law abiding group then where does it stop? However if the various members of the shooting club are committing crimes with their firearms or not following regulations set forth by the college then those individuals should indeed be removed from the club. If you want to dismantle the club of a guaranteed right them dismantle all clubs en mass.

As a former competitive trapshooter I would like to see this program be supported by the college.
