Support the Simpson College Shooting Sports Club

It is absurd that a harmless and well-behaved student club is being abused by these bigots.

Responsible gun sports makes for responsible citizens. Thank you!

Dear sirs - although I have no direct connection to the Simpson College Shooting Sports Club, I was dismayed today when I read in the Des Moines Register that there is a movement afoot to drop the club on the grounds of safety and/or feelings about promoting a "gun culture", etc. My two sons participated on their High School trap teams and there was NEVER even a close call related to safety. In fact, I am confident that every single other sport has more injuries associated with it than does trap shooting. Yes, a gun is potentially very dangerous, or even deadly, but there are also very competent adults advising and supervising the shooters. I am glad to see that Simpson College has a trap club and I sincerely hope that unfounded fears and/or anti-gun agendas do not lead to program elimination. Please resist the well intentioned, but illogical, efforts of those to restrict opportunities for the Simpson students. Respectfully, Dave Alatalo.

As a longtime Isaac Walton member and Simpson alumnus, I would hate to see this program list. I'd be willing to make a donation as well.

Do not give in to fear and misinformation please continue to support competitive shooting.

I was not blessed with natural athletic ability. A shooting club would have been an acceptable alternative to sports if it had been offered. Please give all the opportunity to excel.

I have two sons a four daughters all of whom enjoy shooting trap and skeet. One of my sons is skilled enough in this sport that scholarships may be in his future. I am assuming you are accutely aware of the sky rocketing cost of college tuition so why would you illuminate a sport that could offer higher education to our next generation of American citizens.

Your students should be commended for promoting sportsmanship as well as gun safety. Please support your students as they support Simpson. Thank you, Ed Harris

Shooting sports are a big part of the Midwest. Ever since we have settled North America guns have been a part of our lives. Some in this country still feed their families by hunting, but most firearm use is sport now. Handing down these activities to our youth is important.

As a Simpson alumni I support the shooting sport. I wish this had been available while I was attending Simpson.

The U.S. was founded on the basic principal of citizens having a God-given right to pursue happiness in whatever manner and means available them so long as that pursuit did not infringe on the rights of others and was consistent with public policies (or the law). The Simpson College Shooting Sports Club is consistent with these founding principals and should not be "bullied" (or forced) to cease operations due to the un-American and unconstitutional belief systems of a few misguided individuals. The Founding Fathers of America understood that the security of the U.S. largely depends on its citizens being well-armed and "well regulated" (or properly trained in the use of firearms). Organizations like the Simpson College Shooting Sports Club plays a critical role in ensuring that its members are "well regulated" is the use of firearms. Least we forget, shooting firearms is also how many of us citizens "pursue happiness" in our everyday lives. So please support the continued operation of the Simpson College Shooting Club for no other reason than the pure joy of shooting firearms with friends and family members.

This is Iowa, not New Jersey. We have a rich heritage of shooting and hunting. This is political correctness gone too far.

The purpose of a school is to educate. If students are willing to pay to be part of the club, there is no reason not to use resources to staff the club. A shooting club in an academic setting is to be encouraged. I took shooting sports in college and gained knowledge of safe firearms handling.

Sports shooting is a fun and rewarding hobby. There is no reason for anyone to be against honest, law-abiding people enjoying firearms responsibly. Even gun control politicians like Clinton and Obama claim to support sportsman.

We have a right to own guns.But it's our duty to EDUCATE and PROMOTE Proper gun safety.

Our society is moving to a position of fear of guns rather than a respect for them. Educate and teach to respect and this irrational fear will begin to reverse

The shooting sports help to teach safe gun handling skills to those who are interested in carrying on the traditions of our country.

The scholastic shooting sports program teaches more about gun safety and family values than any other program out there. Please keep it alive.
