The only way we will be build sustainable and livable communities is by going dense. The areas around light rail stations are the prime spots for that to happen.

To this end, the City wants to increase heights and density in the North Rainier area around the Mr. Baker Station. This will bring more restaurants, people, and services to our community and help do our part to fight climate change and other environmental issues.

Let the City know you support their efforts and welcome the rezone!

The momentum for a denser North Rainier is undeniable. The city needs to see that we are ready for these changes.

We live nearby and whole-heartedly endorse the North Rainier rezone. The plan is the result of five years of community input and more than 50 stakeholder meetings. Please do not set aside that process. Vote for the rezone.

It would be excellent if our part of Rainier Ave. would become a lively urban village with wide sidewalks and shops and good jobs within walking distance to the Mt. Baker neighborhood. I don't understand this fear of change that people are expressing. It's a blighted and ugly section of Rainier Ave. that will benefit. People on our neighborhood blog are constantly lamenting the crime rate. More people out and about will make Rainier feel safer for all. This proposal will give us some great things worth walking to and make it a whole lot more pleasant going to and from light rail.

Why build a station there if your not going to allow people to live near it and use it? That slows the trip down for everyone and makes the whole system less useful

Please continue reenvisionining this neighborhood! But at the same time be careful of gentrification that forces people who have lived here for generations to move.

WHen I lived in Oakland many years ago, and BART was built, the neighborhoods around the BART stations were transformed, and are not bustling walkable neighborhoods with great places to eat, shops, and a great retail base. Unless Rainier Ave is significantly revitalized, we will continue to have a high crime rate and areas where no one want to walk after dark.

I strongly believe in transit oriented development - density needs to increase in places near our light rail stations. With increased people living near them, we get people walking and supporting small businesses.
