Support the Millan Centre to continue its services for local women in Manningham, Bradford.

This is a petition to protest Bradford Council’s proposal to withdraw Community Development commissioning from the Millan Centre. This could have a detrimental effect for the local community. The Millan Centre provides essential services to local Women to help them gain essential life skills to better their quality of life and contribution to society, including building confidence, developing English language and sewing skills, offering opportunities to network, befriend, support and prevent isolation. As well as services for marginalised Women and Girls, the Millan Centre also provides services for Children. The withdrawing of such funding could ultimately lead to the closure of the centre and could leave service users without a safe space and resource for the local community.
The aim of the petition is for Bradford Council to recognise the work of the Millan Centre, to listen to and acknowledge the needs of local community.
We, as the local community, staff, management committee and stakeholders protest and request for an appeal to reconsider this decision.

I have submitted a formal request for a meeting with the Bradford Council leadership to discuss the impact of these funding cuts. We are currently preparing a briefing document that outlines the specific community services at risk if this proposal proceeds.

I have colleagues who speak very highly of the Millan Centre in Bradford, including its ESOL teaching work - this is important work that deserves public funding and support!
I feel it's very unfair that the Millan Centre has to close. This centre is not just a place for educating and enhances the lives of many people but supports and builds valid relationships which unities the community.
A precious resource like this is to be cherished, not put at risk. It takes years to build effective links and trust
The Millan Centre does a lot of very important work in the community with people who might not otherwise have the opportunity to be involved with similar projects. Without centres like these, we risk exposing a lot of vulnerable people to social exclusion and expoitation by others.
millan Centre provides a valuable and valued service to local women and children who might otherwise struggle to access support, services and educational opportunities elsewhere due to a whole range of barriers. This is important work that should continue to be funded.
On behalf of NATECLA, we strongly oppose any cut to community education provision and will be distributing this petition to our members.
