Kids need rodeo

4-H is open to EVERYONE. Anyone who thinks otherwise is misinformed. It is an inclusive organization and should get the funding to continue to provide opportunities to the youth of Johnson County.

Our youth learn valuable life lessons from programs like 4H and FFA along with learning responsible animal stewardship, and have been for decades. These programs are irreplaceable, and their loss would be a detriment to youth and community. Please support this wonderful resource, it is the heartbeat of your community. The one place where all come to together to learn, appreciate, and celebrate the hard work, accomplishments, and camaraderie of family, friends and community members. We cannot allow misinformed, well-meaning groups with no animal husbandry experience or knowledge, dictate our way of life and sports out of existence. We must educate them with the same compassion and guidance that we afford our youth and community members who are interested in our way of life. Our animals are a valuable and integral part of our families and livelihoods, and are treated as such. The rodeos are watched closely by our own patrons and participants, and livestock is too valuable and cared for to allow them to be abused. We have the right to enjoy the companionship of, and take pride in the stewardship of, our animal companions. We have the right to teach our youth the life lessons of compassion, responsibility, sportsmanship, and good stewardship; of the land, the animals we love that are part of our families and livelihoods, and themselves. Please support the endeavors of the Johnson County Agricultural Association.

There is far more that goes on behind the scenes than the opposition sees or understands. So much learning and growth takes place in the youth participants leading up to and at the fair each year, and I urge you to continue to support 4H and FFA in our community. I grew up participating in 4H and learned responsibility, hard work and diligence year after year while CARING for and raising our animals with compassion and respect. Those valuable lessons taught on the farm or in the arena carry on through adulthood and translate into future careers and professions. That is not something today's youth should miss out on because of a few ill-informed people.

I hope all the Johnson Co. Supervisors reach out to the Extension Office to learn all about the 4-H program. It isn't just for rural kids, there are clubs in IC and Coralville and through the school systems that involve kids of all backgrounds.

We as a family love the rodeo

Youth agriculture activities have proven to be a foundation for strong leadership skills. Many of these youth go on to become community leaders. Don't punish the children who are active in their communities, and in the community's traditions because of a new movement that aims to eliminate the traditions in your area. Dwight Eisenhower famously said, "Any time we deny any citizen the full exercise of his constitutional rights, we are weakening our own claim to them." Please, do not limit the freedoms of your county because of this. This would begin a precedent that could spread across the country, limiting the success and leadership skills developed in agricultural activities.

As a Johnson County native and current resident who grew up at the Johnson County Fair it would be catastrophic in my opinion to allow those who do not understand agriculture to determine the actions of others.

Keep rodeo in kids lives!!!!

This is s patriotic sport is it old you bettcha it is and the time for it is now more then ever tradition is important and this sport of rodeo is important. Don't let the few takea sy from the many

Rodeo teaches our youth responsibility, sportsmanship, respect and much more. So theres a few bad apples....isnt there in every sport?

My son will be doing rodeo activities. This keeps these kids out of trouble and active in the community.

Keep Rodeo and Western Heritage alive!!! Teaches kids so much.

Soon they will try to take all livestock out of the County, o wait they are trying to do that

I strongly support livestock events.

One of the few things families can still do together! Continue a long time entertainment and fun!

Rural/Ag/4-H/FFA/rodeo events should not suffer because a few city folks don't like it. They are free to choose not to attend. Taking away the personal liberties of others is not how America should work. The hobbies and interests of rural kids are just as important as anyone else's. The purpose of a fair is to provide entertainment and exposure that people don't have access to everyday.

I cannot day enough aboufht how great it is for our youth to develop and understand the focus and discipline it takes to compete in this great support. Truly an American Tradition and a heritage that should be protected and preserved.

We rodeoed all our lives it keep the kids in a practise pen not on the street. Collage's give scholarships to kids to rodeo. How many video games offer that. Their stock is better cared for than most animals.
