This group supports discrimination against gay individuals and trans individuals. Do not support it. You can be a group that’s focused on black issues but if you approve of discrimination against others, your group should burn like the systems that caused the discrimination.

JCA taught me that rapists deserve forgiveness but abortion would send me straight to Hell, flying hate (Confederate) flags on school property is seemingly acceptable, saying demeaning words toward BIPOC & LGBTQIA+ communities is not only allowed but encouraged - all under the guise of good ole fashioned Christianity.

I did not graduate from JCA. On top of JCA being extremely expensive (for no reason, I received a way better education from public school. JCA has very limited resources and would prefer to spend all their money on athletics). However, I transferred after my sophomore year when two of my other Black friends also transferred. Once the three of us left there were maybe 5 students of color in my entire class and 5 is honestly pushing it. After my freshman year, my only Latina friend transferred. The school never does anything to support students of color. I remember my sophomore year, a student from the class of 2014 brought a confederate flag to school and had it flying on his pick up truck. JCA and administration did absolutely nothing. Imagine how terrifying it is to be black in those hallways. JCA will never receive another penny from me and I constantly tell friends and family not to send their kids there. Aside from how they make students of color feel, the education and resources they have are not up to par.

In aggregate, we ALL need to do better. A place like JCA should cultivate ONLY acceptance, equality and love, anything less than that, we are all failing our youth.

I think JCA should make more of an effort to extend educational opportunities for families with lower-income. The same way that magnet schools work. In order to change the culture at JCA we need to diversify the student population. It shouldn’t feel like the school is only meant for wealthy families. I think anyone from a low-income family at JCA can agree with me on this feeling. Whether or not you choose to validate it, I know you felt it.

Our duty as Christians, and indeed as MORAL world citizens, is to listen to people who have not felt comfortable while attending a Catholic institution. None of us are blameless, but we can do something to amend the mistakes that were made.

While most of my teachers at JCA we’re great, there were always a few that would keep their eye on me and give me write ups for things that I would see my whiter classmates get away with constantly. My friends would even express to me how they felt like my teachers had something against me. Whatever it was, I didn’t like it. Things need to change.

Changed schools in the middle of my sophomore year due to some of the reasons mentioned in this petition. Did not graduate from JCA but started my high school career with them.
Dr. Budz is a piece of garbage that needs to go.
