Support Suzuki not High Density

Enough with all the high-density housing projects.

We have already had the new shopping center development forced on us. We have demonstrated our collective committment to preserving open space and the character of the island. This ill conceived plan clearly seems to be at odds with the desires of this community. If the city council proceeds in this direction, I know how I will vote in the next election.

I have been to several city council meetings regarding the sale of this property. It seems to be painfully obvious that our council is willing to hear our pleas for low-impact development but has its own agenda and will act on that rather than the will of the people that supported their election. We, the people of Bainbridge Island, OWN this property, and NOT just the city. Please acknowledge our requests for low-density housing, or better yet, make it THE park it should have been in the first place.

Much of this land has lain fallow for nearly half a century, perhaps even since its previous owners (the Mikami sisters) left unwillingly for Manzanar. The vegetation has grown up in the rich soil, the underground streams of water have found channels, and the wildlife has found a refuge. Our iconic frogs rely on the pond to host their eggs. Any development that disturbs the balance that now exists should be clustered away from the most sensitive areas.

Please do not sell my name or add it to other lists. I support this petition.

Give the environment a break!

Having lifelong family attachment to Bainbridge Is, and currently living in Ballard, I can say that poorly planned property rezoning is a bad way to steward the community and environment.

I live on Sands Please do not allow high density development in that area More traffic, and loss of wildlife habitat and other big problems is just not worth it Too much high density development will ruin Bainbridge and the quality of life here and put a strain on our natural resources Progress and Big development is not the answer.

You have been charged with protecting the community and integrity of BI. This property should be swapped with the BISD for use as needed in the future. More development on this corner of BI is not a good idea for many reasons, including continued/increased traffic issues, wildlife displacement and habitat loss.

Smart development please. Think of all that would impacted in the LONG TERM. Please factor in ALL of the resources that will be affected as a result of increased develpment

Growth happens. We need to grow, as a community that still supports the resources available and acknowledge that they are finite. It would be irresponsible to build, develop and sell homes to people who choose to relocate here and then find themselves without basic things like water in the next generation. Consideration for impact on traffic and child safety is also paramount. Develop responsibly.

Council Members, Show your leadership - now is the time to listen to the people.

My preference would be to leave the property as is... However, if the city truly needs to sell the property to fund the police station I understand. Please put restrictions to protect the wildlife corridor, aquifer recharge and to insure no negative traffic impact. Once this property is gone and paved there is no going back! I do not believe that high density or even higher density than currently zoned is prudent. And, the fact that the city would sell this property at below market rate AND to encourage high density housing is baffling to me. The property belongs to the City... (us).... let's not squander this beautiful piece of land.

The traffic is already crazy at least twice a day -- it can take 5 minutes to turn left onto New Brooklyn Road at 8:20 am. And what about the wildlife, the owls and deer I've seen?

The intersection at SpClub/Newbr is already a traffic nightmare during commute hours. Unless development of the site includes a revamped intersection, NO homes should be added at ALL. The parcel could do a lot for the school district, the LGI "theatre" (cough cough) at BHS is slated for replacement, this location would be better to build a BISD performing arts center which could be used by all the area schools. Think hard before selling. Once it's gone, it will be gone forever.

PLEASE just leave this property alone! When we replace forests with pavement, and give away public land to private parties, what we have is lost FOREVER. Your decision will last hundreds of years into the future! There is no going back.

A smaller number of single family homes seems more reasonable given the already difficult traffic conditions during the school year. Please consider either that or a public park/open space.

I think the city already owns the property.

The impacts on the environment and Bainbridge Islanders have not been taken into account.
