There are some specific skills that a public university cannot provide. They attempt to copy private institutions by hiring people who studied there to teach at their university but their courses are still sup-par. I would rather study with people who are experienced and are good at their job instead of a public university lecturer who only has the job because they cannot do it on the field/in the real world (I have had too many of these types of people in certain fields of study).

I choice to study with a non-university higher education provider because I wished to study in a Christian environment and as a single mum with a special needs child this small college was compassionate to these needs the way larger universities were unable to be.

I feel strongly that students at private institutions should have the same or similar government benifit schemes in place. Degrees are of equal value and I see no reason that fees should be so much higher for non-public education students where the institutions already do not receive government funding themselves.

We should be following the examples of Germany and some Scandinavian countries and making it easier and cheaper for people to gain higher education. I think the passing of this bill would be a huge step forward for all of Australia.

I urge senators to amend the governments higher education reforms so that universities CAN NOT set their own fees, while keeping the majority of other changes, including those that would see private and public tertiary students paying tuition through government assistance being treated equally. Deregulation of University fees will be the worst thing that could happen to Australian higher education, and would lock many students into debt they may never be able to pay back in their lifetime.

All accredited higher education institutions, whether a private provider or not, ought to be treated equally. Students who commit themselves to the rigours of gaining a higher education qualification ought must always have the right to choose the education provider that best suits their educational needs, learning styles and educational philosophy.
