I hope the Virginia Beach city council sees the value in having the millions of dollars in commerce that comes with being a resort community including Sandbridge. This decision affects all of Virginia Beach because if the resort community is not welcomed, real estate prices will plummet and rental home owners in Sandbridge will have to sell their properties. This makes no sense at all!

We have had a small family beach cottage in Sandbridge for 30+ years. As our family has grown to include grand- and great- grandchildren we frequently have as many as 30 of us spending the night, putting the little ones on sleeping bags in the main room. Day/evening visitors can double the count. We would not call a barbeque of this size "an event" but I'm concerned that the proposed ordinances would drastically limit our use. We actually have considered using one of the "event" houses in the coming seasons to hold a wedding gathering as the area is special to many of the family. I understand the full time residents objections, but I think a solution should involve enforcing noise and parking restrictions that are in place in any neighborhood, and perhaps putting a maximum on the size of new homes built rather than limiting the use of all our homes.

As a homeowner I support Sandbridge as a vacation destination for all to enjoy as well as personally enjoining my home there. Without the rental properties and the tax benefits of those properties, Sandbridge needs to ask who's going to make up that significant budget deficit

We support Sandbridge and strongly disagree that it is a residential community. It is a vacation destination and without the continuation of that concept, Sandbridge will surely be a less fortunate community due to the significant loss of tax revenues we as property owners contribut to what you believe could be sustained without our support of Sandbridge as a vacation destination.

This activism against events is misguided and without merit, brought on by an insignificant vocal minority. Sandbridge is a large township with different neighborhoods. Barring a few exceptions, the full time residents live in the quieter back-bay area. The event homes and larger rental homes are on oceanfront. There is no overlap.
The full time residents get the benefit of taxes, local businesses generate employment while the event/rental homeowners take all the financial risk.

I wonder why people kept coming back to Sandbridge prior to the advent of Event Houses a few years ago? I'm thinking the real estate companies have misinformed you about what is being considered an Event house.

Don't believe the petition statement that there is a "very small group that desires to eliminate special events". That group makes up the vast majority of Sandbridge residents/owners and they are solely against the use of short-term rentals for primary purpose of hosting parties. No one is expressing a desire to eliminate vacations, getting married, rejoicing anniversaries or celebrating in Sandbridge. It's all about prohibiting what the City has already defined as commercial activities.
