DUSC supports amending the HRP Act to allow for commercial office development on Pier 40 and to extend the lease for such development, PROVIDED THAT at least 66% of the Pier 40 footprint be dedicated to sports fields in any redevelopment, which would represent a doubling of the existing field space.

We appreciate that there are many other factors that the community needs to consider and that there are many points of view regarding how Pier 40 should be redeveloped. We have examined DUSC's priorities and studied the issues in debate, and we believe the best opportunity to increase the amount of field space and improve its quality is to allow commercial office development to fund such improvements. Our 66% condition recognizes the need for such development. We believe that compromises can be reached on other key conditions such as height of any development, allowable square feet of office space and other aspects that satisfy HRPT’s economic needs while at the same time do not prejudice the community. We look forward to working with all stakeholders as the process moves forward to find solutions that address as many needs as possible as well as ours.

Furthermore, given the amount of time between now and when a redevelopment is completed, DUSC has requested, and will continue to request, that the quality and safety of fields at Pier 40 be improved and then preserved and maintained during the period prior to renovation beginning as well as during construction.

If we are converting more and more buildings into residential buildings designed for families (ie, St Vincent’s hospital) we need the infrastructure to support who is moving in (schools, fieldspace, etc)

My son and his teammates have benefited from the use of the Pier 40 sports facilities for years. I believe the majority of the footprint of Pier 40 should be devoted to sports fields. Commercial space can always go UP -- fields can't!!!

I urge CB2 to save and enhance the sports fields and ensure open space for the community. Please allow some commercial space like offices to generate revenue but not at a loss of space for parkland and play fields.

Fifteen year Greenwich Village resident, local business owner, educator, father of two young daughters, parent soccer coach. We desperately need to maintain open, green space for our children and sports enthusiasts.

Both my children grew up playing soccer at Pier 40, with my son aged 17 stilling playing. This is a great resource of developing our youth in sports, which is great challenge in Manhattan. This is one area we desperately need to grow and not diminish in any manner!

I don't object to some commercial development in Pier 40 as long as the vast majority of the space is dedicated to fields and other spaces - both indoors and outdoors - where downtown residents - specially kids - can practice sports and lead a healthy life in all seasons.

The expansion of soccer fields keep the hopes of the players as they try to make it to the big leagues.
