Yes, I am Nick’s mother. Yes, some may say I am bias. But I have spent a fare amount of time in Dillingham for a variety of events in 8 years; community events, school activities, programs, parents nights, visits to classrooms, lunch in the cafeteria. I have seen Nick at work, watched him interact with children, parents, staff, and community members. I have watched and listened while he has advocated for the community, district and DES to new teachers and interns. I have even seen his dedication to work at home, late at night, planning, responding to emails, building moral by making beaver treats for staff, taking additional classes to improve his knowledge base and commitment to his school. I even remember late one cold October night, a storm with freezing rain and he dressed to go out. He had a teacher who had not arrived home from school. Nick contacted district staff and community members to help him drive the road looking for his teacher. The teacher was safe, but the dedication and commitment Nick has does not stop at 4 o’clock. He is ‘all in 24/7 for HIS KIDS, staff, district, and community’.
I even sat with Dr Johnson at a volleyball game, where he told me how impressed he was with Nick, what a great leader he was in the district and community, and how much he enjoyed working with him. ( What changed? Dr Johnson?).
Besides being Nick’s mom, I spent 13 years substitute teaching, and another 17 in special education with a math focus. I have worked with many administrators and recognize good leadership, Nick has displayed that as seen in the above petition and letter, the accomplishments made at DES.
Nick is strong! Nick is a survivor! Nick is the type of leader that your students, staff, and community deserve.

Nick Schollmeier was an awesome 4th & 5th grade teacher at the BSSD! He made it so far from being the greatest Teacher to a Principal! Nick also encouraged his students here at the BSSD to become Independent and Capable in their selves. He made school activities enjoyable and fun! A principal should not be terminated in the middle of a school year without good reason. This sort of harsh and brash decision makes it seem like it was a personal choice by the superintendent rather than a decision based on what is best for the students.

When my daughter attended DES I felt that principal Schollmeier was a wonderful person. It was evident that he genuinely cares for his students and staff. I'm shocked that without explanation he was fired.
