I have young children who will be in 205 shortly, and after working in schools and going through the parent/teacher conference process as a teacher I truly believe the importance of a teacher having a connection with the parents of their students.

Face to face parent teacher conferences are invaluable and every year I am grateful for them because I learn so much about what my children need that I would not be aware of without the conversations with the teachers.

Student-led conference is not a substitute for Parent-Teacher conferences. I had to insist on "email conferences" with my child's teachers as the only one I was allowed to meet with was her substitute seminar t a her.

I'm all for kids presenting their progress, but dropping the formal periodic parent teacher conversation is a mistake.

I can't believe that the superintendent thinks these meetings are simply a pr! I have a first grader who was not telling me how well school was going. We thought she was behind until we spoke with our teacher who talked about what a great job she was doing. She gave us ideas for areas where we could help her and found the meeting very beneficial for us, as well as for our child. I want to be involved in my children's education, and these meetings help parents get involved.

As a past parent of Sandburg, a resident and realtor I think this practice makes zero sense. If children presentations were done in addition that would be fine. The parent/teacher conferences should still take place. Parents have less opportunity to meet with teachers starting in middle school and this opportunity should not be taken away.

Please bring back parent-teacher conferences. The student-led version was not at all helpful to the parent wanting to stay connected to their child's day and the teachers who play such an important role in it.

I value parent teach conferences as the one time in each school year where I can discuss my child's individual needs and curriculum with the teacher. They are vital to keep track of how children are doing in school and should absolutely not be eliminated!

Parent teacher communication should be a consistent process throughout the district and not customized by school. It is our right as taxpayers and Parents to have open access to allow for communication with the teaching staff that we entrust to our children;s future.

It's important to keep a mechanism for parents and teachers to meet and talk in private face to face about each student. While power point presentations may be useful, they are not an appropriate alternative to a parent teacher conference. Parents need to regularly talk with teachers about their children without their child present. We don't have small adults, we have adults and children. Adults need to " adult " together on a child's behalf, period.

Face to face communication with my son's teachers is necessary. My son's conference this year didn't give me any insight into his struggles or issues he may have had. It was nice to see him run through the PowerPoint, but there was no substance or discussion about difficult topics.

As a teacher myself, I think it is important for the student's voice to be included in the conference, but it shouldn't be the only voice. Learner centered learning doesn't remove the teacher from the equation and shouldn't, especially in providing important feedback to the parents.

I have used the parent-teacher conferences for years to check in with the teachers on behavior, social adjustment and engagement of my student. How would this be accomplished with the student there? This is the only 5 minutes you get all year one on one with the teacher without your student to discuss matters face to face. The face to face communication is imperative -- email, twitter, blogs, etc -- do not replace being able to see the facial reaction of an individual and immediate feedback.

I value one on one with my child's teacher. Each time I meet with the teacher I learn how my child is doing and what I can do at home to help his learning progression.
