I support student led conferences only if the teachers that actually have the student is also present.

It is essential for a prent to meet with the teacher to evaluate the teacher and his/her approach to our students. It allows the parent to advise a teacher on an approach that might work better. Also it helps the parent explain the teacher philosophy to the student. This is an invaluable meeting.

The only useful part of our recent "student led" conference was the couple direct questions I asked the teacher about how to help my child. I need the full "Parent-Teacher" conference

I'll be honest, canceling PT conferences would force me to request a conference with each of my children's teachers separately... at a time when is neither convenient for me or the teacher. Rather than an efficient 5 minutes, I'm sure we would need to schedule longer. In the spirit of collaboration and transparency and sanity... PLEASE keep PT Conferences.

Parent teacher conferences are incredibly valuable in determining how our children are progressing throughout the year. These meetings should absolutely not be eliminated.

I look forward to parent/teacher conferences every year. I feel they are a very important interaction with my child's teacher. Even more meaningful when parent and child involved directly with the teacher!

When I first heard about the student-led conference I thought what a great idea to have the student play an active role. Once the conference was completed, I was very disappointed in the outcome. My child's presentation did not give me any true insight into how he is progressing in his classes, what he is excelling at and what he is struggling with. (The fact that his presentation wasn't even fully completed gave me cause for concern) I value the opinions of his teachers and need to hear from them on how my child is doing and what we can do to support them. Five minutes of one on one time with a teacher provides me so much more information than what this student-led conference gave.

Both my children attended District 205 during their youth. I found the parent-teacher conferences to be informative and helpful to both parents and teacher. My grandchildren now attend Dist. 205. It's good to have email contact with teachers on a basis with will keep the parents informed about problems or accolades as needed for a child. Many parents don't have the time to get involved with things at school because of job or other demanding issues that's where emails can help. I still stand on the ground of " Because I don't hear from the school doesn't mean my child isn't having a problem." Sometimes a child doesn't want to worry their parents. Involvement counts.

I agree with bringing back a parent / TEACHER conference. I have gone through many years of conferences where each teacher presents how my child is performing and I have a chance to ask questions. While I also believe we can approach the teachers any time of year the parent / teacher forum also enables the teacher to think about and provide feedback to the parents at least once per year. I appreciate the student preparation component however that should be just one aspect of the conference.

We, as parents, need the time to meet face to face with our children's educators. As it is, the time is so short. 5 min. long each. I understand that it can be beneficial for our middle school and high school students to participate in conferences during other times in the year, but Parent Teacher Conferences are the only "guaranteed" time to get together. Our teachers are wonderful and do give of their time outside conferences, but to just have Student Led ones is not fair to nor teacher or parent.

Parent/Teacher Conferences are the highlight of the year for us parents. We would like to see them in the Spring as well. You meet who is teaching your child in the teaching environment while getting a feel for what it is like to go from class to class (far, close by, etc.). The feedback from the teachers is priceless yielding the opportunity to ask questions and determine their expectations. This Parent – Teacher perspective enhances the Teacher – Student relationship as it rounds out the support of our child academically. Thank you so much for the current Parent/Teacher Conferences and we look forward to the years to come!

I find the parent conferences at York extremely valuable, even in light of how brief these are. Parent conferences permit parents to ask questions, get a reframe on an issue my student may be misunderstanding, get tips on how to be successful in a particular class, gauge level of my student's engagement in the class, etc.

I find parent reacher conferences very helpful! Like them to be teacher directed and with each respective teacher who knows my child. Feedback from child can be obtained at home - do not want child's presence at conference.

Parent-teacher conferences are an important part of the support network for our students. Conferences are especially important because we only have one in the entire school year. If the Principal would like to add the presentation in the spring after proper parent-teacher conferences in the fall, then that would be an idea. However, not having an opportunity for parents to meet teachers and to help to work together to best support the children, devalues the relationship between parents and teachers. This puts both parents and teacher at a disadvantage, and ultimately the students.
Who exactly benefits from students producing their own PowerPoint? Whereas the benefits of a parent-teacher conference helps parents to compliment the learning that students are receiving in the classroom.
Finally, it is extremely difficult to efficiently meet teachers for parents and vice versa, if the time is not already set aside. It is a logistical challenge for everyone!
