Large wheelie bins are unsuitable for most of the residential streets of Merton, the weekly collection works well - why change what works? Most Merton residents recycle regularly, surely promoting this is the way forward. Very concerned and worried about the lack of hygiene such a change would impose on residents.

The plan for fortnightly collections goes against the wishes of residents and should be stopped.

Our bins are overflowing by Sunday night and this summer we were overrun with maggots. Goodness knows what it will be like with collections changing to every fortnight. I take it we will be getting lower rates for this new reduced service.

We used to have two bins one for paper and the other for plastics. Years ago that changed to any type in any bin. You are replacing that with additional wheelie bins and 14 day collections. Why does it save money. Why do we need these oversized bins to do the same as whe recycling was introduced. RETHINK! We have the best collection schemes in London and your ‘binning it’. Please don’t!

I do not agree with having large unsightly bins outside houses. Making the area look like a rubbish dump.

Labour have already decided to fortnightly collections and ordered the bins, so what chance have we got and what happens when some bins fail to be emptied, as now, do we then have to wait a month?? Keep the weekly collection, but it will not happen, it has already been decided and arranged by our Labour "Councillors"

I am completely perplexed by the new arrangements and will not be storing 2 new wheelie bins, so my recycling will go down. Textiles and batteries collected weekly????

Merton is wasting money the old system worked well.
They should concentrate on cleaning the litter and dealing with fly tipping.
Also they need to unblock the road drains especially on Copse Hill.

We keep our bicycles in our front garden and don't want to have ugly and bulky wheelie bins. It will make it difficult to get our bikes in and out of our garden (we don't have a car). Since we have very little space, this will make our front garden a storage space for rubbish instead of a garden. We have not been consulted about this.

Merton Council is bad enough now with regards to litter and the streets not being cleaned and this two weekly collection will just make it worse. Really is a pathetic idea, going backwards instead of forward.

Too many bins per property - why aren't we using our existing bins and not just new ones....such a waste when we are trying to reduce plastic usage....

It means having bins on the street for 2 weeks minimum. Packaging has to go in them even when washed. Foxes, squirrels and crows can soon get into them. Weekly collection essential.

I'm in a flat above shops on a high street, we don't have the outside space to store the bins at all - unless you're happy for them to be on the street permanently! yet we received the letter re new bins - only purpose built flats are exempt - eh, why just purpose built, they should have been built with space, it's converted properties that have less space than originally built for!
