I'm told by someone living in the Richmond Borough that Richmond council was voted in on the proviso that the council continued with weekly refuse collections. No thought seems to have been given to those living in flats in converted houses. Lots more unsightly bins than before taking up more room. The whole move was ill thought out. What evidence did the council have to suggest that people would cut down on waste and take aways? Mondays on Merton streets makes the area look like a third world country. Why choose to buy here now?

Current bin collection model is not working. Please reinstate weekly bin collection.

Really poor service from a council that are happy to collect our taxes but not provide adequate essential services. Excess rubbish leads to an increase in vermin, which increases the risk of exposure to disease. The answer seems very simple - if the service is not fit for purpose - change it!

Completely agree - have never seen the streets in such a mess! Foxes are getting into the excess rubbish that is waiting for collection and rubbish is being dumped on the streets. Plastic and glass should also be collected weekly - as our bins are full within a week! This is not putting council tax money to good use!

We are a block of 6 flats and have still not received our new wheelie bins. We have nowhere to store our waste away from foxes. We are living in filth. A complaint to the council has been closed. They feel this has been resolved as we will receive our bins soon. Appalling implementation. No care for residents. Disgusting situation.

The new bins smell bad even in cool weather, 2 weeks is too long between collections.

I agree. The fortnightly collection is not a good idea. It has turned our neighbourhoods into an ugly metropolis of unsightly waste-bins and multi coloured recycling boxes. It has added to the confusion about collection days and taken away the smooth operation we all enjoyed prior to the rolling out of the new scheme last month. The savings argument is not convincing either because rubber collection vehicles still make weekly trips although they pick up different stuff each week. Please accept this is a bad idea and revert to status quo ante. Cheers.

We are paying council tax to do the Council’s job for them whilst making the borough look absolutely disgusting with all the horrendous bins & increase in fly-tipping.

The business case for the newly introduced rubbish scheme is flawed and distorted. In addition, if a collection is missed due to travels or other 'normal' living factors then a household will experience 4 weeks between rubbish collection which is neither clean nor acceptable considering the council tax we pay.

Add to this that they miss collections (no collection for 3 weeks), our road stinks, has black bags dumped in the road...then spread by foxes....the cleanup will cost more than the savings from reduced collection. Plus the bins everywhere make the area look needlessly messy.....most properties don't have space to put the bins out of sight

This is great in theory but useless in reality. It will lead to a lot more fly tipping. at a minimum we need a weekly Black Bin Collection.

Whilst we have been recycling a lot more, cutting the general waste and glass/plastic collections to bi-monthly is not working. There are 5 flats in our block and all of the recyling boxes are already full, with a week to go. No issue with paper and board being collected every fortnight, that's fine, but the rest is not. The other thing that the council appears to have stopped is the brown garden waste bin being collected for free. No reduction in our council tax, but a reduction in our service!

Whilst we are recycling a lot more, reducing the general waste and glass collections to twice monthly is not acceptable. There are 5 flats in our block and all of the glass/bottle /plastic/recycling containers are already full with a week to go.

No way this saves money for anyone. Merton Council has been irresponsible and profligate with the borough's cash. Neither is this cost efficient nor is it really achieving the environmental benefits claimed (the waste streams largely blend further down the chain so this is mostly optics!). And of course the Council has not supplied all the housholds with the bins and crates needed. This costly experiment needs to be stopped.

Bins at my block of flats (Sovereign House, Draxmont) are overflowing by the end of the week, let alone the end of two weeks.

So stupid and unnecessary to do bi weekly collections ..don’t see any council tax reduction !!

The streets are no cleaner since the fortnightly collections began. Instead we have more unsightly, large plastic bins everywhere, adding to an already cluttered streetscape. For those who have nowhere to store them, or who have so little rubbish there has been no answer from the Council. The bin men still come round with a large yellow wheelie bin and take the waste from the individual bins before loading the full yellow bin onto the lorry - demonstrating that our individual wheelie bins are unnecessary.

There is already a serious rodent problem in many parts of Merton. So downgrading the frequency of street cleaning and bin collections further imperils street hygiene and degrades overall appearance.

The state of our streets is a disgrace. They look like a dump! Wheelie bins everywhere, food and recycling waste all you can see. This campaign should be called making Merton dirtier. Not happy!
