I, for one, would gladly pay more taxes to give teachers a living, competitive wage. Those who cannot teach, do. Not the other way around. These people often spend more time with our children than we do--they should get paid at least what you would pay yourself--and then more on top of that because teaching is a hard, hard job. And a good teacher is priceless.

I have watched my mother work her hands to the bone for twenty years, spending far greater than the "40 hours" a week her job is described as, and spending even more of her money and time making sure her students have the supplies they need to learn. It's long overdue that we recognize the worth of these dedicated individuals, and begin compensating them accordingly.

It is very hard to hire new teachers and retain current teachers if the pay is not competitive with other districts. You are putting our students at risk of not having quality teachers.

A 3% pay increase is a standard yearly COL increase, and teachers are asking for a reasonable percentage increase.

As a country we need to spend more money on our teachers and on education in general. Do we really want to raise a nation of poorly educated citizens?

Please pay benicia teachers for All of the hard work they do. We are in the top rated for the bay area of public schools and yet our teachers are poorly underpaid.

Teachers are the difference makers! Let's take care of them...because if we can't attract and keep great teachers, new technology wont matter! Pay the teachers so our children will have top quality education...something that Benicia is known for!

There IS money for our teachers ( 16% reserve- it's only supposed to be 4%. )
