Support Neighborhood Schools in RISD

Please consider other options besides enlarging schools. Not only does the community not want 1000 student schools or to give up any more of our much used playground space but we want to see a plan to promotes property value growth in other neighborhoods besides White Rock. It does not benefit the greater LH community to keep making WRE larger.

My husband and I have lived here for 51 years. All 3 of our children were fortunate to have attended WRE This school was and should continue to be the center of the community. To lose that would be so sad

Reducing class sizes, hiring more teachers, building needed facilities should be the #1 priority for all RISD - elementary, Jr High, and High Schools. This package spends the entire debt limit on a lot of other "stuff" rather than addressing the current and future growth problems. Kids learn in smaller class sizes and engaged teachers.

You can't spend money in any better than on education.

Increasing the size of WRE will reduce the community feel and the quality of our children's education (less or limited art, music, PE, library, etc...) due to the large number of students. Please consider a review of the boundary lines, moving sixth graders to the middle school, or adding an additional elementary school in the area.

I oppose increasing the size of White Rock Elementary. Our children have attended WRE for the past seven years and there is a vast difference in the school now in comparison to my 6th grader's first years at White Rock. We also have a kindergarten child this year and look forward to his upcoming years at our neighborhood school. It has grown so much and we would hate to see it increase in size again.

Please do NOT add onto WRE. Our school is already too large, and making it even larger is NOT the answer.

I am opposed to adding classrooms to WRE. More options need to brought to the table

I strongly oppose expanding WRE beyond 1,000 students. This is not the best decision for our children, neighborhood, or the district.

Would rather redraw boundary lines than expand current schools. Keeping neighborhood feel is the main attraction for families moving to lake highlands.

I DO NOT support adding classrooms to WRE. Making this school 1000+ is the wrong answer for our neighborhood and the wrong answer for lake highlands. Your actions will have a major impact to whole community.

I am all for increasing the cafeteria and other general use areas at WRE. I am opposed to increasing the number of classrooms resulting in the size of elementary over +1000 students

DO NOT ADD ON TO WRE! WRE CANNOT GET ANY BIGGER! It's already too big!

Please reconsider adding on to WRE. We have four children, ages 5-14, and we want our youngest to have the same wonderful experiences that our oldest had at WRE and LHJH. When our oldest started Kinder in 2006 there were about 580 kids at WRE, that number has grown every year and will continue to grow. The administration has done a tremendous job keeping the neighborhood school feel, despite the increasing numbers every year; however, I fear this will be impossible if the school is expanded more than it is now. Some of my favorite programs for the children, would be very difficult to continue with a school larger than 1000 students. Parking during school activities, drop off and pick up has become very difficult and use of the outdoor green space has been more limited due to the number of children. Lunch times are already running from mid morning to early afternoon, and recess is difficult to schedule with 900 kids, let alone 100+ more. Please explore other options, such as building another school or redrawing boundaries.

Keep neighborhood schools.

WRE should remain under 1,000 students. The best interest of our children is what is most important and a school that is larger than 1,000 students provides a lower-quality educational opportunity for all of its students (less opportunity for the individual child, lack of after school extracurricular/enrichment opportunities, loss of 'community feel', harder socially for the kids, etc.) If expanded, WRE would be more than TWICE the size of Moss Haven Elementary. This is not a responsible or fair choice. We want the administration/board to consider building a new school, in the nearby vicinity, that will address over-crowding at not only WRE, but much of Lake Highlands Elemntary schools. Perhaps this is a 5th/6th grade center. Perhaps this is a new K-6 school. Explore the options in detail. Expanding WRE is not the answer.

Do not turn WRE or any other LH elem into a "Plano Megaschool" by continuing to add on classrooms. Keep total student capacity below 1000. I was reminded of the seriousness of this problem as I parked my car near the school today to pick up my kindergartener. During drop off and dismissal you can barely get down the streets that surround the school. Some days there simply is not enough space for two-way traffic on these neighborhood streets. If there was an emergency at the school or at one of these homes during this time of day emergency vehicles would NOT be able to get through. It becomes a safety concern to our children and the neighbors surrounding the school if you continue to increase the capacity of WRE. The neighborhood streets can not handle the traffic.

White Rock Valley resident. Please limit the school size to under 1,000 and consider building a new neighborhood school.
