why does it take a petition to get a common sense need like National Paid Maternity Leave included in the Family & Medical Leave Act when it should have been a #1 priority when the Act was instituted in 1993??

I just came back from maternity leave 8 weeks wasn't enough and I only got paid six but it was only at 60% and I'm playing catch up now and I would of loved to take longer.

Maternity leave should also last longer then 6 to 12 weeks. For many mothers, especially those who breastfeeding feed, it is extremely difficult to go back to work after such a short time.

All mothers should receive paid maternity leave. Not short term disability that only pays our 1/4 their salary!

I had my daughter nov 2013 and i didnt have any income at all for my maternity leave. It is extremely hard to just provide the essential things without counting rent and such. And for those that are simgle mothers, this is even more difficult. Bringing a child into this world is a gift and should be supported.

I don't see why a mother should have to use her vacation or sick leave or even have unpaid leave to stay home while recovering from childbirth and caring for her newborn! Also for mothers who choose to breastfeed and pump it would be nice to have longer time with your baby because it's very hard to pump while working and there is nothing better for baby then their mothers breast milk!! I think a lot of moms choose to switch to formula for this reason too.

at least 6 months of exclusive breastfeeding is recommended by the americam academy of pediatrics. Moms need more leave to make this happen!

It is ridiculous how far behind this country is when compared with others when it comes to maternity leave

i am not eligible because I have not been at my current company for 1 year yet. But I have worked my whole life. I moved to a new state and got a new job and then got pregnant. I am not covered for anything :(

It's crazy to be expected to leave a newborn baby with a stranger or if you are lucky, a retired family member during the time when that new baby needs you most. It's bad enough that people are shamed for breast feeding in public.

Yes! Paid maternity leave, I was fortunate enough to have 5 weeks paid leave but not everyone is that fortunate and working moms need it!

Our country should be ashamed of how we treat pregnant woman! And it Sitka be 12 weeks after the baby, if you need time before, bonding with your baby shouldn't suffer.
