I support national maternal and paternal paid leave. I'm an expecting mother, due Sept. 28th 2015 who would benefit of this. Without this privilege, my small family of 3 will be behind on bills maybe even evicted from our home. Our 3 year old doesn't belong on the street, nor does his parents. Please pass paid leave. Thank you

My husband and I are expecting twins during the holidays. Our joy is overshadowed knowing the financial strains we will experience with two new babies on top of me receiving such little pay for 6 weeks...assuming I am not removed from work sooner. I earn the dominant income in our home and the current US standards are going to put us do far behind. I am expected to return to work 6 weeks after birth but certified daycares will not accept the twins until they have received their first immunizations at 8 weeks which means an additional 2 weeks of unpaid leave. 6 weeks to navigate a life with 2 new babies...Sick and vacation time will only get us so far. After being with my employer 10 years we are only entitled to 2 weeks vacation. Speaking with my coworkers from other countries makes me cry for how far behind the US is in supporting new families.

My husband and I are currently adopting an infant. We are in a situation where I am trying to take time off after he is born but because I did not carry the child I do not qualify for disability. The only way I will be able to take "maternity" leave is through the fmla leave and by using almost all of my vacation/ sick time to be home during the crucial bonding time. I fully support a fund in which this type of process is easier for adopting parents.

It is amazing and hard to believe that a country like ours is still behind in so many levels. Politicians have done nothing to help its people, something so basic and important that will benefit so many families.. please do something!!!

It's about time. So much of what is wrong is our lack of family...which requires support. Look at other nations and how they provide for mothers...it's an embarrassment that the USA doesn't.

PAID materniry leave and bonding time should be as easy as the welfare people are getting these days. I'm having my second child and can not bond with her because my children are close in age. The government pays for dead beats to live day in and day out. They have baby after baby because they know how to work the system. Hard working mothers like me can't even get 12 weeks to stay home and bond with our newborns?! Something is off and needs to be changed immediately. There is no reason that we should be penalized because we get up and go to work 40 hours a week! Take our paid maternity from the free loaders working the system! The rules need to change to help people like us.

Though i am lucky enough to have a job that will give me 6 to 8 weeks off I know that many women out there aren't so lucky. Emotionally healthy mamas who get a chance to focus on their babies when they need it most will be more confident and raise more secure babies!

Help working mothers be better Moms with paid leave. Giving children a great start in life by bonding with a Mom not stressed to go back to work immediately after giving birth will benefit women across all socio-economic backgrounds.

It is important for this petition to pass. When I had my child, I stayed home only for six weeks. When I returned to work, my milk supply decreased significantly and I had to work hard to try to catch up on bills. As a single mother who receives no assistance, this was extremely difficult and I failed. By the time my daughter was six months old, we received our eviction notice. For most organizations that offered financial assistance, I made too much money. But not enough to catch up. My unpaid lead was only six weeks, but I didn't see a check until two weeks after I went back to work because of the pay period. The birth of a child should be a joyous occasion, not something that could completely destroy stability and cause so much distress.

Women and babies need to live in a country that has evolved since the 1900's. America is on of the only developed nations in the world that doesn't offer this.

This is an imperative need in our country. I'm currently on maternity leave with no short term disability and my company was recently bought out leaving me without pto after they reorganized vacation benefits.
