Irish Local Development companies are an integral part of the country especially rural Ireland where they play a hugely important role in economic and social development. The support of Local Development Companies to small business, entrepreneurs, festivals, tourism initiatives and related projects have allowed communities to grow and flourish and create employment all of which is incredibly important in sustaining rural and urban communities in this highly volatile economic environment. It is imperative that they are retained for strategic growth.

Our Local Development Committees are a vital resource in supporting the work of the community/volutary sector in rural Ireland. As well as access to finance our LDC's are an eseential support mechanism in empowerment for community groups, specifically in support, training and mentoring. West Limerick Resources has been instrumental in the setting up and ongoing support of numerous programs that are not provided by our statutory bodies, services that are key to enhancing life for many vulnerable and marginalised in rural Ireland. There is significant value add to these services as they are partly financed through local fundraising, a source of income that will not be accessible by local authorities. It is time that our public representatives, at local, national and European level, open their eyes to this stark reality, and listen to the people who vote for them. We have, and will use our votes in support of those who stand for community development that is not directly tied to our national and local government apparatus.

I believe all Leader money etc should be invested in local communities and the best way to make sure of this is to leave it in the hands of Local Development Companies

Not only will the current proposals be devastating to local peripheral communities on the West coast, they are also not in line with the approach recommended by Europe, who having commended Ireland's existing successful model. The new proposals are not bottom up or community-led as is the intention of European programmes like Leader.

Recently my elderly mother availed of the services of the Helping Hands Initiative in Ballyhoura Country. The service that they provided was fantastic. The work that was carried out by the team included power washing the outside of her house and cleaning the windows. Their work was impeccable and they were so kind and friendly to her on the day. She is delighted that she now has a lovely clean house and at such a reasonable price. She will certainly be callling on them again in the very near future.

We must let the politicians know that this is wrong. the coucils can never do the same job and jobs will be lost id the contracts are given to them. The partnerships must be saved for the sake of our communities.

Why change something that is working well? OH yea, consume it into a big mess, employ a few hundred more staff to make sure the mess doesn't get cleaned up & there will be feck all funding left... .

Essential services such as FORUM should be preserved as they provide an essential and integral part of the communities rural structure.
