Leitrim Development continues to be a vital player at grass roots level connecting and supporting local businesses, agencies and the communities they serve. This role should be maintained and expanded, not diluted.

These are vital services for local community development and sustainability and need to be kept in operation.

Ballyhoura has provided badly needed supports to small businesses in a flexible and meaningful manner through both funding and business advice.

Local development programs within the community allows for the inclusion and participation of people who otherwise are excluded from partaking in worthwhile community based projects. For those not directly involved projects such as these generate only good and positive results which helps to improve the quality of life for all.

Local development community projects and services should continue to be delivered by local community agencies such as NEKD as they are in the best position to know what projects and services are required in their local communities. Privatising the service will only lead to cutbacks as the private organisations will have to produce a profit in order that their organisation survives.
