Taking the distribution of funding away from an expert group like DLDC is ridiculous

Undermining LEADER and Local Development Companies removes the base unit of Local Democracy in Ireland. A Government that has abolished Town Councils, reduced the numbers of County Councillors in the most marginalised parts of Ireland and attempted to abolish the Seanad is now setting about removing the opportunity for activists and volunteers in communities to become leaders and bringers of opportunity in their communities.

The Carers Association wish to acknowledge and thank DLDC for their support over the past three years in providing much needed breaks and information seminars to family carers. These supports are vital as they help to alleviate the social exclusion experienced by family carers throughout Donegal. The proposal by Government to have the DLDC aligned with public bodies could have serious consequence for family carers as the strong links established between DLDC and family carers could be severed. The bank of expertise, skills, experience and understanding that exists within the DLDC would no longer be available to family carers and this would further disadvantage vulnerable carers who are mainly rural based and dependent on DLDC. We fully support the work of DLDC and believe it should be retained with its "bottom up" model of responding to local issues and needs - Rosaleen Doonan The Carers Association

As a DLDC Board Director, I can confirm the bottom-up approach. Development of Local Development Companies is best & should be retained. Very important.

Having worked closely with both DLDC and DCC over many years, there can be no doubt that the staff of both have very different agendas. That of DCC to protect DCC & that of DLDC to get the job done.

Keep the LDC's running the schemes. The word 'local' is the most important part of the name because we trust the expertise, networking abilities, and local knowledge of the current staff
