MUST not close. USP is that Ballyhoura works closely with the clients and the local community.

I came upon this petition while searching online for something else and I wouldn't have seen it otherwise. Clearly the whole country is not singing off the same hymnsheet.

I strongly support the Local Development Companies as I have seen at first hand the invaluable work that they carry out in Rural Ireland. They have the expertise and local knowledge of how to assist rural businesses in a constructive way. They are extremely effective and I am at a loss to understand why this existing and successful network should be replaced.

By having our local development companies our rural populations keep their power in identifying their needs and given the education, support and power to address their needs for themselves. let's keep the power!!!!

leader is vital to all our communities.if county councillors take controf the funding then the independent nature of approving funding to the most appropiate projects will be lost.ol

The experience gained by the present local development companies must not be thrown away and replaced by new groups who will take years to gain the knowledge of how best invest Leader monies in Rural Ireland to best effect. It would be madness to loose this knowledge

The Local Development Companies are the only realistic option if the objective is to genuinely meet local community needs in a comprehensive and accurately targeted way, using the vast depth of local knowledge and experience drawn from the very strong community based knowledge and experience which is the Essence of the partnerships. Attempting to changer this extremely successful and cost effective method of delivering vital services to local communities is completely unnecessary and, in my view, utterly absurd. It.is clearly driven by forces whose interests do not lie with the successful delivery of local services to local people in local communities

To even suggest the discontinuation of the Local Development Companies in Ireland is astonishing and inconsiderate of the commitment and dedication of its employees and volunteers who, in many cases, work above and beyond their personal remits. It is paramount that these companies remain not-for-profit, as for-profit organisations will not offer the same level of dedication and service to its local communities. The LDCs offer an invaluable and irreplaceable service to their local communities, as they currently exist and any suggestion to replace them sends a clear message about our Government’s commitment to our most marginalised communities.

In the 1980's the late Irish Time journalist John Healy wrote a book called 'No One Shouted Stop' about the way rural communities and small towns in Co. Mayo were allowed wither and die. We are now here in 2014 and about to do the same thing over again. An organisation like Ballyhoura Development which helps small rural communities flourish and expand and provides training for vulnerable and unemployed people should not be swallowed up and centralised but should be funded and allowed continue their good work.
