I strongly support the existing local development companies and believe it would be yet another centralisation of power and leave the work done open to far more party political interference.

As a social enterprise we have found the support of Waterford Leader Partnership to be invaluable. Not only because of the funds they administrate but because of the advise they have provided and training support and networking opportunities they provide. They are essential for rural development in both enterprise and tourism.

The work of Irish Local Development Companies is critical in sustaining local communities - these companies are the cornerstone of a community and voluntary sector that is being eroded by sweeping changes at national, regional and local levels. Communiies need these supports to be maintained in the same format - some stability must be in place to support the community and voluntary sector to keep communities vibrant and responsive - independent of local policitians / and councils

Local Development Companies have convincingly demonstrated the capacity to play a unique role in Irish society, a role that is complementary to mainstream provision.By building bridges between local actors, programmes and spheres of interest, they have been critical in identifying and assisting local synergies, assisting in targeting, piloting innovative responses to local need and providing information and support that assists in the adaptation of policies to local conditions.
