The proposal to abolish the Local Leader Groups makes absolutely no sense on effectiveness, appropriateness and cost grounds. Admin Costs in Leader Groups are under 20% of the programme budget and pay scales in Leader Groups are lower than the equivalent pay scales in Local Authorities meaning the Leader Groups can deliver the new Leader programme in a much more cost effective manner. The EU strongly support the Local Leader Groups as the delivery organisations of the Leader Programme due to their long-standing, strong and positive links with the local communities built up over the last 22 years, the Local Authorities simply do not have the local people with the necessary strong positive relationships with the local communities to deliver an effective Leader Programme.

if put out to tender the LDSIP will become the remit of overpaid consultants who will not be pro community and the programme will loose the essential element of effective community involvement

I have seen first hand the huge benefits to local communities that this funding has made. The bottom up approach taken by the Local Delelopment Companies in dispersing this funding, is key to it's success. I fully support the continuation of the role of the Local Development Companies.

Without this service lots of SME's would not get off the ground. It is vital for all SME's to know that there is support and advice out there to help them when they are starting out

I believe in the fantastic work that Local Development Companies are making - it is hugely beneficial to communities all around Ireland. They have vast experience in the LEADER and Local Development Strategies programme already and so it makes perfect sense that this continues

These local development companies are crucial to the everyday existence of society and local community. Without them people will feel very isolated and forgotten.
